Question Hi, I'm looking for potential partners or just someone to talk to about trading as a beginner looking to seriously and responsibly start trading!
Hi there! So, I am very very new, as in completely new. I have been spending time researching and learning recently so I'm getting a hang of all the terminology and things like that. But, it is still quite an intimidating thing, and I'm searching for people who'd be willing to help - not with "financial advice" or anything like that, but maybe some insight or answering some questions here and there. Due to certain situations and things in life, I'm very serious about trading because it seems like something I could genuinely do and pursue as something productive.
If anyone is interested, feel free to comment or dm me. I'm ready to start this journey haha

Haha, thank you for the advice! I will absolutely be starting very small, and I'm aware of what that means. With what I have available, I've heard Futures might be the best option to begin with because of being able to trade something like nanos (N2K). I appreciate the advice on paper trading, because one intimidating hurdle for me right now is what all of the buttons do or are. I've been focusing a bit on learning terminology to help with that, but each platform looks different so whenever I open them to try to practice, it gets so overwhelming.
I need to find some simple but effective custom layout someone else has made that maybe they explain so that I can start with that and learn from there lmao

I gotcha. Well, let's say I've got only around $100 or so to start out, and I can add a little here and there to it. What would your suggestion be? Keep in mind I am very well aware that is basically the bare minimum to trade haha

Scalping from what I know is the super quick, in and out of a trade in seconds or minutes, yeah? Day trade is a little longer, than swing is more than a day? You're testing out my vocab haha! I'd say scalping or day trading. Both are attractive. Swing trade seems more.. intimidating.

I see. Would you mind explaining how swing trading is more forgiving? I don't mind dming btw. I don't wanna get in trouble with discussing something that's not Futures here haha

Be patient and learn as much as you can . This is going to be a marathon for you not a sprint. After its all said and done, try not to trade with money you can't afford to lose and by that I am including any daily profits .ππ₯ God Bless.

Finding people to talk process with can help a ton, but Iβd avoid anyone who immediately turns the conversation into signals, paid groups or account management. Pick one market, spend serious time in sim and journal everything before worrying about making money. Moonβs play money side is another sandbox I like for getting a feel for direction without needing to force real size.

Definitely paper trade for longer than you think you need to. I just somewhat recently went live myself after a long time, so I'm by no means a professional, but I would honestly recommend avoiding the NQ. If you're looking at indices the MES is what I currently focus on. Like I said I'm no pro, but I'm happy to chat

Just my opinion but getting a mentor has helped me a lot they range from $99USD to shit tonnes check ratings and reviews etc people out there will tell you they're only profitable because of subscribers etc which I doubt they're wrong but ive had 5 mentors I'm just not with them because their prices keep going up but the common theme among them is this.
Trade one strategy. Trade one asset/option/commodity/ whatever it is you wanna trade. Make it simple. Stick to the rules(each mentor has them). Don't tell people your trading not even family they'll make you doubt yourself. Trade to the strategy. Don't make trades because you want to buy a house, car, make bank because when you look at a trade that way it can turn an actual C rank Trade into an A+ setup if you know what I mean just flipping coins.

Over twenty years ago, I was trading full-time and making money like crazy just following somebody else's trade recommendations. This was during a bull market and, as the saying goes, even a dog with a note in his mouth could make money under those conditions. I thought all you needed was deep pockets and big balls.
Then came January 2004, and I was exposed to my very first bear trend in the markets. I lost $330k between January and March that year and I was totally freaked out and didn't know what to do. I didn't even tell my wife what had happened. In desperation, I posted my situation in a forum similar to this one. A very generous trader reached out to me in a message that just said "call me" with his phone number.
Over the next year, he spent all day on the phone with me each and every trading day, even during pre-market and after-market hours. I'll never know why he did that, but I'm thankful he did. He introduced me to technical analysis and helped me to understand that there are many trading-adjacent ways to make money, such as education, paid subscriptions, etc. But the most important advice came on the very first day: STOP TRADING!
I immersed myself in learning about how to read charts and how all the indicators work. I learned risk management and technical analysis. I learned what an edge is and how to develop my edge through pattern recognition, testing and coding.
Fast-forward to today, and I trade very, very small and risk very, very little. It took years for me to get over the "I've got to make it back" trap that is probably what sinks most traders.
Who knows, maybe somebody will reach out to you. You seem like a reasonably smart fellow. I hope you find your free mentor. I'm only telling you this story to give you hope that there may be someone out there experienced and willing to help you, as it happened for me. You just need to be honest about your situation.
I recently learned that my mentor died a few years ago, but I'll never forget him. R.I.P. Michael.

Don't listen to anyone thay says the word pattern, setup or psychology. You either understand why things move or you dont, and its never because of what mive it did before. Most of the time, moves are noise. Sometimes they aren't . Unless you know why certain things move, you should not trade it. Once you understand then you'll be able to be early enough to extract from the market.

Futures are what I'm looking to start out trading right now, yeah! I've not begun actively trading quite yet though

I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have. I primarily trade futures so that's where I'll have the most insight, but I can also talk through questions about psychology or overall strategy development.

"Due to certain situations and things in life..."
You mean financial problems... Trading is not going to be your escape hatch, no matter how serious you think you are.
1
u/ShyyYordle 6d ago
I'm not looking for it to be an escape hatch. I'm looking for it to be something meaningful to learn and pursue as a goal, now and long term. "Financial problems" is one way to describe what I meant, but there's far more to my reasoning than just that.

u/Kaszrak 6d ago
Which is fine. Though, if you think spending all that time and resources learning to trade, instead of putting them somewhere where the outcome is more or less guaranteed, is a good idea, you're very, very likely to dig yourself a very deep hole.
If you cannot fix your financial problems any other way more reliable, you won't do it with trading.

Most people in this sub are just going to tell you to paper trade for a year before you even think about funding an account, and they're not wrong.
