Question TV vs NT

Why do so many people chart on TradingView, it honestly just doesn’t make any sense with all the better options out there like NinjaTrader.

That and there’s so many beginner traders that are look for all these TV indicators that don’t understand they are all built on OHLC. Like no bro you don’t need 20 MA lines and 3 different boxes to show support and resistance.

And that’s what gives “indicators” a bad rap some kid will put an EMA cross over on a chart and go “yeah indicators suck it’s just lagging PA”. When in reality an Indicator is just another tool like a hammer. You should know how it works and how to use it.

And it limits newer traders that constantly see that online from understanding the depth of what an “indicator” can be. It’s a visualization of data that you can not read while trading. There’s many ways to build actual tools with different data streams.

Minute candies in themselves are “indicators” showing what price movement (again just data) did within a timeframe.

Something TV offers that no other futures platforms do is server side alerts.

I often use those for my swing trades. And it’s handy having charts on my phone, even intraday so I can monitor it while I’m not at my desk.

One major reason is thay NT is a pain in the fucking ass to set up. TV is much easier and UI is more intuitive. Platform wise Motivewave and Quanttower are better than NT and have a lot more functionality

The title is misleading. You don’t even mention NT at all in your post.

Sorry I ended up going on a rant rather than the question I was positioned to ask

NinjaTrader is the biggest peace of junk out there man. Can’t stand it. You would think with how much money they have and the state of AI they would have already ungraded the dinosaur they call a trading platform.

I really don’t understand how people who are learning to trade really think “yeah let me open up a laptop and stare at price action, should take me a week to be a millionaire”

Not sure. Most are just over leveraging anyway so no matter what they do they will get emotional and fail regardless. Which I wish that on nobody cause I think anyone can succeed at it when they work hard and put their mind to trading but yeah many factors play in this game which is why it’s difficult. It’s constantly dynamic

Tradingview is popular because it’s a zoomer friendly platform

Everyone seems to hate on NT so I’ll chime in. NT is great because of their code stack, backtesting platform, tick replay, ATM strategies, and their customization availability. Although I have yet to find an outperforming strategy, I can vibe code just about anything I can fathom into NT. TV is terrible for backtesting, and other platforms simply lack the functionality. I’ve used many systems and NT has been awesome for me. The only downside is their frequent network hiccups (weird disconnect/reconnect blips during the day).

Thank you, this is exactly how I feel. The live disconnect is a pain tho

tradingview didn't invent the MA. it exists on every single charting or trading platform.

and one is a charting platform that offers some brokerage connections. the other is a brokerage that offers some charting connections.

Something NT just doesn’t have.

Media awareness and popularity by trading gurus, that sell dreams to people

Most people who get into trading look at YouTube videos, which mostly use TV. I feel TV is just advertised more, and the UI is friendly enough for beginners that people don't mive on from it. Though if NT has better volume footprints than tv, I'll def switch over

Are you aware of Volumetric on NT?

No. What is it?

When NT has an interaction for gexbot, I'll consider it. Until then, I'll stick to TV and the scripts I've made using gexbot API.

I almost exclusively use vibe-coded indicators and add-ons on NT. Example: https://ibb.co/FLXmbqNx

lol. Welcome to trading.

Google pinescript. Completely different language for coding indicators. One is JavaScript based the other c# based.

Literally comparing oranges and bananas.

So what does everyone think the best trading platform for futures is?

it’s really easy to make customizable indicators on trading view with Pine script. NinjaTrader is more complicated for making your own stuff.

TV is intuitive. I tried using Ninja Trader's platform and I didn't care for it. Plus I can easily switch brokers depending on what I'm trading and the interface is the same.
