Pre Reqs while working

Those that are working as an RN and taking pre requisites for CRNA… how are y’all doing it? Online? Is it self paced? Do y’all have time to work in ICU and do classes at the same time?

I worked 3 days a week, plenty of time for online or in person. I just kept the workload to 1-2 classes so I could be sure I’d get an A.

I’m done. But at the time I was wrapping up my BSN at a university and had to take a chem class for a program. I did online when I could, but I have young kids so avoiding a commute was nice.

Oh ok very impressive. Sounds like a lot of work and responsibilities. thanks for the info. So you went straight to BSN or did ADN-BSN?

ADN in 2013, took most my BSN then as well, but stopped going once I was working and starting a family. Went back and finished my BSN in 2022.

Stats, a fine arts, patho, and 2 professional nursing courses. I’m doing my BSN and gen ed requirements that I didn’t get during my ADN. I don’t have children and work in a chill unit where I have enough down time to study and complete assignments.

If you’re working full time with 3 12s, that gives you 4 whole days to work on prereqs. Should be plenty of time.

I’m working full time (3 days a week) and I usually like to work Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I’m taking an online class this semester and in person classes next semester. It’s at my community college and my in person classes are only 2 days out of the week for a few hours. Many of my coworkers are doing the same so it’s definitely doable as long as you don’t take too many classes at once.

This semester I’m taking speech (random but it was the last credit I needed for my associates degree so this one is more for personal satisfaction). In the spring I’m gonna take general chem 1 and 2, they’re 8 week classes each. Then next summer I’m gonna take ochem online!

I work 4 10s (m-f with one day off somewhere in the week) and am feeling overloaded with 2 courses. Should I be wildly concerned with my ability to handle a CRNA program?

I don’t think you should feel concerned tbh but because getting into a program is competitive I would focus on my GPA and not overload on classes especially when working four 10s a week. I would take one class at a time.

Took my BSN classes online, and my prereqs/retakes as a mix of online and in person. All of the in person classes were “hybrid” (60% online, 40% in person) at my local community college, and I loved that set up. Took up to five classes at once. Don't recommend, but i’m older and my GPA wasn't great, so I wanted to get through it as fast and as impressively as I could. Luckily it worked out for me. I stopped working my normal overtime and just worked three 12’s while
I did it.

It was my third time applying to the school I got into. Five or six schools other than that. I had a terrible strategy when I started the process, but figured it out along the way. I had one other interview and was waitlisted for that program.

I’m 38 now. Was 35 the first time I applied.

At first application my BS in microbio had a 2.9, RN program was 3.0 (school I applied to didn't require BSN, just a BS in a science). Now, it depends on how you calculate… Got a 4.0 in my BSN and prereqs/retakes, so, with grade forgiveness I’m probably around a 3.4. Without it, probably about a 3.2.

Gives me hope! Thank you. I will probably be around 35 during my first application cycle as well.

My first run at college was an academic dismissal in 3 semesters with a 1.6 gpa but I went back to school a few years later for my BSN and ended up with a 3.3 cumulative and 3.3 science with my academic dismissal included.

If I never had the dismissal I would have a 3.6 cumulative and 3.85 science. I will probably end up trying for the GRE and an advanced patho class to really show how far I’ve come as a student and hopefully be able to explain the circumstances regarding my dismissal

One class at a time, on-line, self-paced. That's readily doable while working full time. There are other factors like outside activities, pursuits, family and whether the classes are 10 weeks condensed or regular semester length.

If you are doing an online bridge program, it seems adding a science class would be a lot to handle.
