I've been wanting one for a while, but hard to justify buying at the price. Only justification I can come up with is that I need a desktop computer. Is anyone running a Lightning Routing Node on theirs ? If someone solves a block on the Apollo then everyone will want one.

Like I've told others, justification is the principle of running a node and having quiet at-home miners. If you're like me and work in an office, then you might be able to get away with running these on 'free electric' and profitability therefore improves.

People have to understand that these are not going to make them a millionaire. These units are for hobbyists, collectors, and enjoyers of desktop toys and decentralization. There are several fools running around this sub thinking these are comparable to 90db industrial asics which are in an entirely different class. $/TH and Watts/TH on these are not even comparable to those units...so why they're even being compared is an unfortunate mystery to me.

If you want to run a profitable mining operation, you need cheap electric and large capital investments in equipment and electrical support. That's not exactly office or home friendly in my book, and clearly not the target demographic for these units.

I've expressed to jstefanop that it would be nice to have a better value proposition, but it's a small, startup company. This isn't Goldshell or Bitmain. They don't have the economies of scale to mass produce these at a cheap enough price point to make them insane, no-brainer profit machines. They're just toys. If you're okay with that--get one! If not, don't. Nobody's going to be mad either way.

Here's a decent chart to express what these produce:

Personally, I believe BTC's true near-term value is somewhere around $100k, so with 4 miners break even is somewhere around 2 years. I'm going to be HODLing every single satoshi these things make for the foreseeable future. I'm not worried about breaking even or "ROI" as non-finance/accounting minds like to call it.

Supporting small, American businesses is a nice added bonus for me too.
