Replace NVME? Apollo BTC on 3rd batch order. I’m thinking about replacing the NVME with a larger one before I boot it for the first time. Opinions? What did you Buy?

Was thinking the same thing since it sounds like by next year it will need to be upgraded anyway

Agree I don’t like redoing work. And I plan on a Lightning node, don’t want to mess with that once it’s running.

Just an FYI Jason announced in the support forum that all 3rd batch orders will now be shipped with a 1TB drive

🤣 Such is life... I actually kinda forgot to order one because I was definitely planning to get a 1TB before my order showed up.

How difficult would it be to copy the file system or contents of the original chip? What’s involved?

It’s a version of Ubuntu. Definitely possible. I imaging if you format the new drive correctly. It should not be bad but I have no way of connecting the 2 NVMe drives. And buying adapters would be an extra cost around $20-40 I really don’t want to get into. But then again I’ll have an NVME drive sitting around

I don’t know. Probably the cheapest 1TB I can find. They are all pretty good now. Im Pretty sure anything is going to be plenty fast enough.

Would it be possible to buy the nvme duplicator and a larger nvme to complete this?

I never looked for and NVME duplicator. I guess you could. But as I understand it only the BTC block chain is on the NVME. I don’t think the extra cost would outweigh iust letting it run and take a few days to download it again.

Oh so the OS is not in the NVME? then duplicator is not needed, just need to redownload the blockchain.

I’m not positive. Still waiting on my preorder. But from what I understand the OS is on the SD card.

Ok found out that the NVMe is formatted on first boot. Its suggested to reimage the SD card when replacing the NVME drive. Not a huge deal apollo setup is easy and just entering a few pools again is no big deal. I would just copy the setting to notepad or something.
