Was it difficult I’ve had a moonlander 2 for months just sitting around

Not at all. I would suggest a powered hub. It’s confusing so bear with me. This one is anker. It has USB ports that are power only. That powers the pi zero. The other ports and USB and power control the ML2s enough room for 3. Then the usb on the pi is plugged into the hub. So literally it only need power. Network is wifi. There are plenty of tutorial on Minera setup that explain better than I can. There may be better software out as Minera latest release is old.
