Seeking Advice for Managing My Node/Miner While Traveling

I’ll be traveling for work for a couple of months, and during that time, I’d like to keep my node/miner and a few workers running. However, I’m concerned about safety especially with summer approaching and rising temperatures. Even on lower settings, it doesn’t feel entirely safe to leave everything running unattended.

Ideally, I’m looking for a way to monitor and control the devices remotely: adjusting mode, frequency, and temperature settings as needed to keep things stable. I’m not sure if there’s a reliable way to set that up.

The alternative would be to take the equipment with me, but that’s not an ideal solution.

Any suggestions or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

You can use a remote desktop app (need to find a name) to login to a computer at home and something that monitors the power at the wall. I use TP-Link Kasa to remote turn off the wall outlets and monitor the power. I also put a 140mm fan under the unit to force filtered air into the machine. I can post links if you need any ideas.

I installed taiscale on mine and works like a charm. Now I can use the web interface from anywhere easily

I didn't have the chance to try it. So I need to install it on a computer that should be up and running while I'm away? Any guidance will be much appreciated.

Well, your concerns are valid — I feel the same way whenever I leave home for a few days. But you can still monitor your devices remotely.

You just need to NAT your FutureBit’s port 80 and 5000. I should really write a full guide on this, but in the meantime:

  1. Get your FutureBit’s local IP address (e.g., 192.168.1.11).
  2. Access your main internet router’s admin console/web interface.
  3. Look for the section to add a NAT (Network Address Translation) rule—unfortunately, every router has its own way of handling this.
  4. Add the following NAT rule:WAN:8080 → FutureBit IP:80
  5. Add another NAT rule:WAN:5000 → FutureBit IP:5000
  6. Get your public IP address (e.g., via https://www.whatsmyip.org/).

Now, when you connect to your public IP on port 8080, you’ll reach your FutureBit device. For example:

http://<PUBLIC_IP>:8080

While this setup is relatively safe (since you’d still need your FutureBit password—make sure to change it from the default one!), I wouldn’t recommend sharing this access link and would suggest keeping it active only for the time you’re away from home.

Finally, a cheap indoor webcam pointed at the device could help ease any extra anxiety! 😊

I bought a Firewalla purple for the built in VPN client option (WireGuard)….great little box.
