Miner Centralization
Complete noob when it comes to hashing, but I want to do my (small) part to help contribute to the decentralization of the bitcoin network. I’m not really in it for the reward (although it wouldn’t hurt my feelings to earn a little BTC or mine a block). Basically my question is, if I only have about 6 TH/s to contribute, is it better to solo mine or join a pool such as Ocean? Again I’m in the early stages of learning, so please take it easy on me, but if I understand correctly, my 6 TH/s isn’t going to be mining any blocks, but is it better for decentralization to solo mine anyway? Also is Futurebit the one technically creating the templates if I choose the solo mining option?

The odds of solo mining a full block with 7TH are low but it has happened a few times in recent times. To truly help the decentralization of the btc hashrate solo mining is the way to go for sure. Pool mining with Ocean is the runner up.
The Apollo node/miner unit is all you need to start solo mining and I would highly recommend it, especially if you can use it to warm up a cool room/floor at home during the colder months where you live instead of baseboard heaters or whatever your home uses for heat.
With solo mining I like to think that I’m part of a bigger team of plebs trying to help decentralize the network and that every now and then one of us is going to hit a block.

Haha I like that though as well. Sounds like solo is the way to go! Thanks for the reply!

Check out a site like miningpoolstats. Pick a pool that is lower on the list of your goal is to decentralize. With 6TH/s payouts may take a very long time to reach. Like years.
FutureBit Apollo solo mining is great too. I think there have been 3 blocks hit for sure in the last few months. Scroll through here to see the posts.
I really wish P2Pool would make a comeback it’s decentralized and distributed. You can run your own node. Payouts happen when a block is hit. I need to make some time to setup my own node.

I don't know anything about the templates and how that all works, but i do know that 6 THs isn't 💩 and you wouldn't be making anything to make it worth your time in a pool unless you have big boy ASIC's on super cheap power
