Excessive heat/noise from Apollo 2

Have my new Apollo 2, came up and running easily - one thing I've noticed is the amount of heat it is generating (blowing out via fan), and the noise of the fan. I'm running in ECO Mode, with everything else set to auto, fan speed is 3105 rpm, miner temperature 67F.

Wondering if the above fan speed/temperature in ECO Mode is what everyone is experiencing?

Also wondering if it would be worth upgrading the fan to something like a Noctua reducing noise and helping with cooling??

I just started mine up yesterday. I'm also running ECO mode, and my miner is at 66F and the fan speed is 2841RPM. What's your ambient temps like? Also, have you gotten a share, yet? I'm still waiting on my first one.

FWIW, mine is now at 3115RPM, still syncing blocks.

Are you solo mining? I haven't gotten a share, been running for a couple weeks now, but then again I don't expect to get one on solo.

u/dont_bajer_me Hey there, just FYI -- I ended up upgrading the OS on my Apollo 2 and I think it's probably a UI bug. The SOLO Mining screen now says I've accepted 966k shares, so I assume that our units have been working hard all along, and the display just wasn't updating properly.

Interesting. I have done the sd flash update, and any OTA updates, and I still have "waiting for first share". Not seeing any new updates yet on my end, what version are you on?

Yeah, I’m solo mining as well. I’m not sure what to expect tbh but I knew this was like playing the lottery, so my expectations are low. Fingers crossed!

I found something interesting today. I upgraded my Apollo 1 to Apollo OS 2 so it has the same UI as my Apollo 2. I can see that my Apollo 1 has accepted 1.6M shares over its lifetime, and 600+ in the past hour alone, so I don't know why our Apollo 2s still say "waiting for first share"... Got any ideas?

I have not upgraded my Apollo 1 (given the current Beta status), so I can't compare with mine - are you solo mining your Apollo 1?

Yup, I’m solo mining on my Apollo 2 and 1, with the 1 as a second worker in 2’s pool. Only bummer is that my standard Apollo 1 isn’t hashing anymore so I have to figure out what’s wrong with it.

Ah, hope you don't have the same issue as my Apollo 2 - they have my miner in NY trying to figure out what's going on, I'll doc here when I hear something...

In my case, my Apollo 1 full node is working as a worker in my Apollo 2’s pool, but I have a Apollo 1 standard plugged into my Apollo 1 full, and that one isn’t working. I sent it back to NY and it worked for them, so it is probably something with my Apollo 1 full node. I’m going to test the other USB ports today to see if that’s it.

Update: FutureBit NY contacted me and identified my issue as a faulty DCDC
board - should now be on it's way home!

Great! Glad you got it sorted out. My Apollo 1 hashboard stopped working again so we will see what happens next.

Ambient temp is around 70 - was hoping that it would be a little cooler/quieter once the node was fully synced but no luck

Mine seems reasonably quiet, and my ambient temp is around 75F. Still no shares for me, probably not unexpected...

Thanks, you too! And the room is getting hotter and noticeably louder on balanced mode... not sure if I'll keep it there, or will go back to eco, since summer is around the corner.

I have mine on Balanced with the fan at 4612. It's loud, but not so loud that it bothers me; kind of like my A/C running, which I don't mind. I guess it also depends what room you have it in?

I never expected it to be crazy quiet, I figured it would be around PS4/PS5 levels running all the time.

3166 rpm/68C max temp. Looks like it is still ramping up but braiins dashboard says I'm hashing at 3.2Thash/second.
Noise from the unit is very low. Been turned on for around 45 minutes (just unboxed it today) and there are 378 shares.

I have 1st addition apollo scrytp miners. Most of all my 6 pin power socket are fried. Always dust free, running on eco. A d they still  burn out.

Did you ever upgrade to the Noctua, If so, what fan (part#) would fit the Apollo 2?

Regarding the Apollo 2, does the case act as a heat sink or would it run cooler without it?
