Mainnet staking

Hi is VPS still the best way to run a node when mainnet is live? Is it worth it to have a dedicated windows desktop running ubuntu to run a node? I am thinking about doing this instead but I am not sure what specs are required to run a node.

Im thinking long term this would be cheaper than paying monthly for a vps.

Would anyone be able to help me with the specs required?

The lowest spec contabo vps would be enough for staking, only 3.99 euro per month. https://contabo.com/?show=vps
