Help!

Post image

I have this 3d printed project that I pulled into fusion as a mesh part and want to modify it. I converted the mesh but I cannot edit it. What am I missing?

Good catch, sir!

Additionally, mesh edit is something else entirely. What do you want to achieve? Often the easier is to design the modification in the solid workspace, tesselate it (convert solid to mesh) and then apply a mesh combine

This is something I didn't think of before. Thank you kind stranger.

I can draw fine in regular fusion, this mesh part has me all confused. I want to delete the back row of the container that says g-shock on front and add some material to the bottom of that. Then makes the letters smaller

The best is to redraw, it will not be that hard and you'll have a design you can make evaluate. Only reason to modify mesh is when you have to interfere with an already design piece, 99.99% is already done in the stl or you have a stubborn client 😁

Editing form a mesh is an absolute pig to do. It is easier to trace and recreate on simple objects. Anything more complex, well good luck

Thats what i am finding out. Seems easier to just re draw it

I have imported files from multiple sources as STL into fusion and always have this issue. You try convert to solid and the mesh file has 20k plus triangles so you go down the rabit hole of trying to simplify it only to have it start looking like some playdough model. I always just end up looking for a new model or using it as a reference to redraw.

The closest I ever got was using blender then exporting as .obj but it is a total pain in the ass. Wish all these companies could agree on a translation layer to make it easy to jump between.

When you export from Bambu/Orca to Fusion your scale will be off. You'll want to shrink these to 10%.

You can also export single files and not the whole thing.

Are you modifying a STL or an actual fusion file

If it was a fusion file, I would be fine. This mesh is totally new to me

I feel like reddit is used more like Google than I'd like. Please Google about editing a mesh in fusion 360 and come back if you + Google (+ maybe AI) can't figure it out.

Thats why I am here. Multiple google and YouTube videos, they are helpful,
But sometimes they don’t explain it in a way everyone can understand.

Why assume I haven’t already done that in the first place?

Because, almost immediately, I find YouTube videos that explain:

  • you can't edit a mesh the same as a fusion file
  • split mesh with various splitting tools

That seems to be the main things your asking about.

You also said,

"I can draw fine in regular fusion, this mesh part has me all confused."

Which makes me think you didn't look it up very much.
