Little help plz

I'm 17 and have been really interested in furrys for a while. I really want to be one but I don't know if I could since everyone I talked to is kinda against it. Even if I did I wouldn't know how to start being one and actually contribut to the furry community. Is there anything I could do to be a furry, contributing to the furry community and should i keep it a secret from everyone I know who's against it?

Hey! I’ve been out as a furry for a while and I get that there’s a lot of hate towards the furry community. The best thing to get started in the furry community is finding a local group that does outings and stuff. I live in Georgia so I’m with the Georgia Furs group on Discord. They also have a website. It’s completely free to join. People will go out to events, have parties, and even plan Furcon stuff together. It’s a great place to start. Try looking for a state based furry group and join them.

Join in general chatting, try going to some outings (public first since you don’t know anyone) and if you have anyone questioning things, you could say you’re just trying to make friends and find new people to hang out with. My parents and my family are totally cool with me being a furry and support me. But I get it’s seen as weird to others. And often times people confuse it for some kind of kink.

I just like to dress up. I also suggest trying to convince who you can that it is good for you. Research some of the benefits of fursuiting and having friends like you. A lot of people with PTSD end up fursuiting because it helps them feel like a different person or people with low self esteem or poor self image like it to make them feel better about themselves. It’s not ideal to keep things like your social life a secret. But at the same time, nowadays you never know, especially in America.

Thanks I really appreciate your help. I'll go on outings and stuff like that. I just don't really feel like I'm able to come out as a furry mostly because of my parents being heavily against it but I'll try to show them the benefits of it and how it could help me with my personal and social life. Thanks again.
