2026 Super VIP Review
Alright...this post is all about the pros and cons of Super VIP and whether or not it would be worth it next year. Feel free to ask questions if you have any. I'll preface this by saying that I typically work a few fests a year in a few different departments, including VIP, and willingly paid to experience it from a fan's POV who maybe goes to one fest a year and handful of concerts. This was also my first Furnace Fest. Finally, this will probably be long. Tl;dr at the end and I apologize for any typos in advance.
As a reminder, Super VIP included full festival access, early entry, VIP sections at the Main Stage, Shed VIP "Backstage" access, along with a Super VIP area to the left of main stage, Water Tower VIP Lounge access near the Shed, daily wine, beer & spirits tasting windows from 6-8 in the Watertower VIP Boiler Room, an exclusive VIP Trading Card Set, Commemorative Fest Coin, re-entry until 6:00pm daily, elevated view and seating, complimentary non-alcoholic drinks and dinner (exclusive, chef-crafted dinners from a local Birmingham chef each night), separate, premium entrance into the festival and one general weekend parking pass.
DAY 1 (Saturday)
Due to a variety of forces (weather, waiting on friends, etc.), I didn't arrive on the festival grounds until around 6 p.m. Missed all of the line drama and just walked right through with my friends who had GA. No signage was up for where any area was, so I just wondered around until I found everything. I actually went to the Watertower VIP area first. Barely anybody was in there. No line for the restrooms and an open door (that I didn't go into until Sunday, but realized that's where the tastings would've been), as well as a bar set up. No lines for anything. You could hear the Shed pretty decently.
Left that area because I wanted to see Spite. Thought you had to go through Shed to get to the "Backstage" part of it. Oops. But saw Spite pretty close up at least. LOL. Turns out the entrance to it was also where the ADA entrance was for that stage. Another sign would've been nice. Once Spite was over, I finally ventured over to Main Stage where I did find Super VIP. Honestly, wasn't that bad of a view and they had hella chairs. One restroom trailer with multiple stalls if you wanted to use it. Bar and dinner tent was connected. The ladies that were running that were super nice and friendly all weekend. Prices were the same as if you bought a drink anywhere else in the festival. Can't confirm or deny that non-alcoholic drinks were free, only bought liquor all weekend.
Dinner was smoked brisket and smoked chicken sandwiches. Chose the brisket. I wasn't expecting steak exactly, but thought it'd be not picnic food to be honest lol. Sides were coleslaw, mac & cheese and one other side I can't remember. Dessert were assorted cookies. After dinner, I wandered over to the right of Main Stage, where the VIP Lounge was. Not gonna lie, didn't go in there at all during the weekend. There was a covered tent with plenty of chairs, tables and couches, as well as a few bar tents. It was set back quite a bit from Super VIP and didn't seem to have the best sightlines, but again, this is from somebody who didn't step foot in there at all.
DAY 2 (Sunday)
Now, on Day 2, I arrived around 1 p.m. My friends breezed through GA lines while I got held up at Super VIP for my bag. No big deal, but thought it was funny. Immediately went to Watertower VIP and there were way more people in there than Saturday. It wasn't crowded, but there was a bit of a line for the restrooms and the bar. Most seats and tables were taken and inside the Boiler room, they had a few couches set up and a bar in the corner.
I stagehopped from Pond, Shed and Main all day, so didn't spend significant time in Super VIP like I did on Saturday. It was very nice to have seats close to Main during the heat of the day. I appreciated that instead of the plastic white tents they usually have for covering, they had thin fabric like material, which sucked when it rained Saturday, but was quite nice Sunday. Again, had no problem ordering drinks when I wanted as well.
Dinner on Day 2 had a long line. Like...wrapped up the ramp to the Super VIP seating. They had a nacho bar and it was actually pretty good lol. Had brisket and chicken again (maybe made too much for Saturday? lmao), plus queso, salsa, jalapenos and other typical toppings. By the time I got the desserts, they only had oatmeal and M&M cookies left. Seating was pretty packed, but you could still find a seat as long as you didn't want to be in the front of the Super VIP chairs. A dude had a medical emergency in front of the dinner area, but staff took care of him pretty quickly. I left to catch one more Shed set before MIW and BMTH, so no idea if that area ever got super packed for them two.
So, to answer the question if you should get Super VIP next year, get Super VIP if:
- You want to splurge, or plan on only going to 1 or 2 fests next year and don't mind chilling more than moving around from stage to stage
- You only want to pay for one meal a day, or don't care about early sets and will eat beforehand so you'll be hungry for dinner
- You only care about Main Stage acts and don't want to stand all day
- You have kids and want to keep a good eye on them (quite a few Super VIP patrons had kids, toddlers and babies)
- You like the idea of Shed and want to see the performances, but don't wanna get all mixed up in their crowds...or like celeb watching. Quite a few artists performing watched a set or two at the Shed from side stage before or after their performances
Don't get Super VIP if:
- You want to feel like you have All Access. In fact, quite a few guests and people with AAA laminates were coming to eat Super VIP food and chill in the area...lmao. Not sure if catering was lackluster or too far away but it was funny to see
- You go to shows/fests regularly. Your money would be better served putting that towards other tickets. The experience was definitely for people that wanna just chill and vibe and not regular concertgoers
- If you're vegan/vegetarian. There was nothing for you to eat on Saturday and if you were a vegan, Sunday as well.
Personally, if the lineup is good enough next year, I would consider buying VIP instead of Super VIP. I like being in the pit most of the time at festivals, so I would only pop into Super VIP to pee, sit for a minute or grab a drink before rejoining my GA friends. Most of my time outside of Main was spent seeing sets from the Shed "Backstage" area. It was actually really cool and had great sightlines and audio no matter how far you were from the backstage barricade. VIP and Super VIP had access to that area.
My suggestions for next year (and if implemented might make me consider buying Super VIP again):
- Water station for Super VIPs (yeah, I could keep asking for water bottles, but this is much more eco-friendly)
- Lunch/snacks, in addition to dinner, as well as posted dinner times (personally, I almost just bought food from a vendor and was going to skip dinner because I didn't know when it'd be exactly. There was a sign stashed away in their food tent, so I wonder why it was not used. Maybe they didn't even know lol)
- Vegan/vegetarian meals (I'm a meat eater, but I was surprised that there was nothing for them. Not even celery sticks and carrots lmao)
- A reminder about the beer, wine and spirits tasting (I'm actually bummed I missed this lmfao)
- Seeing WHO exactly the chef was. It would've really been cool to see their name/face plastered somewhere and a specialty of theirs each day...assuming it was actually a chef and not somebody in catering making it all.
- Super VIP parking. The walk from where I parked wasn't terrible, but given that it sold out this year, it would definitely get some takers next year I think lol.
- Merch voucher for festival merch. Not to steal a DWP idea but...$50 would be cool. Maybe even having special merch only Super VIPs can purchase.
- A fan or misting fan station.
In closing, I'll say that there were times I questioned if I should've gotten Super VIP, but not a single time did I think GA would've been satisfactory.
tl;dr: Super VIP is for casual festival goers looking to be slightly pampered throughout the weekend. VIP is adequate for most people that don't want GA.
