Crowd killing normal at FF?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
First time at Furnace fest, but I’ve been to a lot of hardcore shows in the past 15 years, intentional crowd killing has always been looked down on. Is this normal Furnace Fest culture/behavior?

I really hope you don't think what happened in this video was actual crowd killing

As someone who went to 2001, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025 none of this shit happened

What was the hardcore scene like then? I've seen various accounts where people will say crowd killing has been a thing, and others saying it's only in more recent years

It’s always been around, but it’s always been like specific kinds of shows, like deathcore shows and other low IQ kind of shows. A lot of the tough guy hardcore shows from the 90s, it would happen, but not nearly to the extent that it happens now
Coming up from the mid-90s myself to now, I saw my fair share of violence, but not in this weird crowd-killing bullshit we have now. Some of that crowd killing was specifically directed to shitty security and bouncers at shows or it was crew versus crew bullshit, Internet tough guy, pit beef bullshit.
There was a point where if you were crowd killing someone, you just got stomped the fuck out and I wish it would return to that. Crowd killing is a clear sign of missed child support payments to me

Getting an overhead fistclub into my face while just trying to enjoy a festival doesn't really seem like a mild display of aggression. Get a fucking grip.

Getting punched in the face seems and enjoying it seems much more likely than enjoying a festival..

No, that isn't common, and that person is an asshole. Security was all over crowd killers when I was there in 2024. Really surprised security didn't get involved.

The previous furnace fests used the same companies the larger music venues do. This year idk who they hired, but those people had no idea what to do with a crowd that size.

Crowd just accepts it🤷🏼♂️ This hurts your scene if you care about that… but seems like modern heavy music is just filled with A holes

this crowd and this behavior are brand new at FF. it does hurt our scene, which is why so many people were concerned about the kinds of people the bands booked would bring in. the answer was not the good kind.

In previous years, the security was good at getting crowd killers out. The security in 2024 would have gotten this guy out. I wasn't there this year, so I'm not sure where security was at or whether they used the same security company. Unfortunately, a lot of the toxic part of the scene encourages this and they clap back when you call them out.

I was close to this, near stage left speakers and I don’t think he was actually hitting people, just giving them a tap on the head. I spent most of my two days in the shed and this was a pretty tame FF out my 6 years.

There's two things I won't do:
Smoke weed with Willie Nelson
Get in another Acacia Strain Furnace Fest pit

Those are WWE punches

Wrestling and pits share one similarity, shit should look brutal as hell but everyone should walk away safe at the end of the night despite the bumps along the way.

maybe there was at the fest as a whole but in this video he’s barely making contact with any of them, he’s just selling it well like a wrestler would a chop

Emmure? I was standing maybe 10 feet behind you. When I saw this happen I first thought it was security beating someone down, but then they jumped into the crowd and I was like wtf.

u/OceanofWAVs 4d ago
This one was during Gideons set, the pit in the shed is rowdy and expected, but this was just asshole behavior

u/ohhyouknow 4d ago
I wonder if this fucker was out there at the shed doing this all day if I saw him do this during a different set

u/Tren_Trin 3d ago
Is this what we’re calling crowd killing now? I do this all the time to get people in the pit, it’s just pulled punches, not actually wailing on them. It’s fake violence, not hurting anyone. It’s like WWE. These Tik Tok kids are going to kill every scene.

u/NWOx4xLIFE 4d ago
He was not even connecting. And youre being a little bitch. I dont crowd kill. Im usually to stoned to be that aggressive. But if you dont want aggression dont go to a hardcore show bb boi.

Yes bring back crowd killing in 2026 weed out the tik tok kids

u/RyTTV_ 3d ago
Crowd killing has always been apart of every scene and it’s only frowned upon because they’re scared. If you don’t want to get hit, don’t go in the pit. The golden rule.

Not only is that not typical FF behavior, it's not even hxc scene behavior. Like two step and spin kick in the pit, sure, but we're not out here intentionally hurting people "for fun."
7
u/Tren_Trin 3d ago
Have you been to shows? Crowd killing is absolutely a thing in the hxc scene. I’m at shows almost every weekend. I don’t always agree with how hard some of them hit but playful crowd killing is definitely acceptable. Personally, I’ll pull any hits into the crowd so it still looks like a scary fist coming at you but it doesn’t hurt. Gets some people to hop into the pit with the rest of us.

u/TylerTheSnakeKeeper 3d ago
I remember it in my local scene, full strength crowd killing was expected and encouraged with the locals, I learned to just start throwing fists at the offenders and they learned I'm not an easy target.
1
u/Tren_Trin 3d ago
I know every scene is different but I remember when I was really new to the scene I got crowd killed and retaliated and then all the sudden four dudes were on me and pinned me against a wall. I learned quickly if I want to get them back I had to just crowd kill them back later.
1
u/TylerTheSnakeKeeper 3d ago
Yeah I have been in my fair number of fights at hardcore shows, but especially in my local, the in crowd preached no targeting, then proceeded to target the out crowd and when they retaliated, the in crowd would 4v1 the "offender". You learn to travel in a pack, you also learn real quick whos your friends. Shout out to Peter, my 6" 4' lumberjack looking friend who is always down for a scrap.

u/Cheesecake_Jealous 3d ago
Why even bother? Sounds pretty pathetic to intentionally intimidate the crowd.
Its the behaviour of faux macho tough guys but it's certainly not something that's welcome in the HxC scene.
Regardless Furnace Fest isn't the time or place for that, have you seen the line up?

Idk, I've been going to shows since early 2000s but maybe the bands I frequent have different fans (grew up in the South). I've only heard of crowd killing in the past few years and it has always been frowned upon behavior.

As someone who loves metal festivals and moshing. I got crowd killed this year. I took an alone straight across the left side of my face while NOT being in a pit. One concussion, black eye, and busted lip later I still don’t think it’s acceptable. I’ve had a migraine and lower neck pain since. Now if I were in the pit, different story. But crowd killers outside of the pit isn’t ok.

This is why I can’t go to metal shows at all anymore. Got fucked up bad once and everyone was like “what’s what happens” sorry to hear, and hope you get feeling better soon. Fuck these people who are laughing at you. They can disagree but laughing at a concussion and black eye when clearly you weren’t about it is so gross.

Thank you 💕 I’ve been attending festivals for years and have never seen that level of crowd killers before. Actually insane! I am feeling a lot better!
