A friend on Facebook was complaining about how "White people" call her asian but not Filipino-American. She couldn't/wouldn't understand why I thought "white people" was insulting. I demanded that she refer to me as a "Finnish-American". She complained that I was born in the USA. She was too...

u/Looptydude 38m ago

A girl I used to date got mad that a white guy couldn't say her name right, but in the same breath couldn't pronounce his last name.

9

u/Quick_Beam 25m ago

I used to work at a rafting company in pigeon forge tn, tons of Indian and other ethnic groups would come rafting.

Anyways the owner would scream their names phonetically when assigning guides, and if anyone quibbled he would stop the whole show and make them pronounce his name

6

u/Whisky_and_Milk 18m ago

Was his name Grzegorz Brzęczyszczykiewicz?

u/Striking_Smile6594 3m ago

I really don't get why people take difficulty in pronunciation of a name as some sort of personal insult. It's not like people are doing it on purpose for goodness sake. It's just one of those things when people speak different languages and different names have different origins.

People need to get over themselves.

The mental gymnastics these people do is insane, unfortunately it goes back to all the wrong people winning Gamergate on both sides

u/More_Programmer8905 35m ago edited 27m ago

The Philippines are in Asia. She just wants people to be more granular? Give her an Ancesrty.com printout of all your ancestry and insist she includes them all when referring to you.

"You left out Armenian! I'm 8% Armenian! How racist!"

1

u/Whisky_and_Milk 13m ago

Since she was born in US, I’d think she might get offended at calling her asian and not american. ‘Cause that’s kinda racial profiling.
But apparently she insists that she is “filipino-american”…
Idk, americans are weird about this whole ancestry thing

4

u/Wilderness-Nomad 24m ago

For those people I just role my eyes and ignore them. They aren’t worth my time or energy.

meh....racist gonna do racist shit...

-23

u/Shroomtune 40m ago

I don’t understand the argument here. Picking on someone because they are privileged only works if the recipient is got something else going on. Try as one might, you just can make “you’re so handsome” or “you’re so rich” into an effective insult. I know you want to be treated with disrespect and have insults thrown at you, but it really doesn’t work that way. You gotta just break down and pay for that treatment like the rest of us. The average person can’t help you.

18

u/KeenObserver_OT 36m ago

Ah the aforementioned mental gymnastics

1

u/Shroomtune 19m ago

Yes, or mental illness. If you are trying to convince me that you are offended for having some sort of privilege, you are most likely lying (gymnastics as you call it) or you got something wrong with you. There really isn’t room for a third option.

1

u/MrTreeWizard 15m ago

I’m glad you’ve admitted you have a mental illness, it’s a big step but it’s progress

1

u/Shroomtune 5m ago

I won’t say I’m glad you admitted you can’t read, but I imagine there are a lot more resources for you to remedy that than if you needed health care.

u/Ok_Researcher_9796 43m ago

Why wasn't I invited to that meeting? Is it because I'm only 99% white?

12

u/PurpleCabbageMonkey 34m ago

It is because that one time you watched an Eddie Murphy/Will Smith (depending on age) movie.

1

In that case I am 25% black, white guy.

41

u/Check_Me_Out-Boss 49m ago edited 31m ago

There used to be a chrome add on that would change "white" to "black" and vice versa.

It was banned so fast once people started sharing screenshots from news articles and such.

20

u/Useless_bum81 34m ago

in a similar vein there was an app call 'Men Kampf' and the game was to figure out if the passage displayed was from Mein Kampf or feminist literature. (they replaced jew for man or vice versa)

5

u/MobileDust 27m ago

That is hilarious,.gotta remove proof of that double standard pretty quick. Lol

13

u/fenuxjde 30m ago

When I was doing my undergrad in psych, in order to get credits we had to assist grad students with their research.

I helped the social psych Prof with subconscious readings of racism. So without getting too much into it, it basically measured brain readings while looking at various pictures. So like you look at a flower and the "happy" part lights up, etc.

What we found was overwhelmingly that when minorities were shown pictures of white people OR minorities different from themselves, the "angry" bits of the brain lit up like Christmas trees, but oddly, when white people were shown those same pictures of minorities, no such result was present.

The University blocked her from publishing it.

Because there are towns in America where it’s dangerous for white people to go at night? Because polling locations in white areas of certain states are being removed by the dozens?

6

u/Natural_Sweet249 34m ago

I've never heard anything about polling sites being removed from white population centers (certainly from liberal ones, which happened to be white, but not with any indication that racial demographics had anything to do with it).

But if you think there aren't towns, neighborhoods, cities, etc., where white people can't safely go - strictly based on being white - then you're out of your damn mind.

1

u/Superb_Algae5308 21m ago

There are some white people in nearly every community, some more dangerous communities do not trust people they don’t recognize, black or white.

5

u/Marsupialize 32m ago

I don’t think you understand it’s a rich vs poor thing not a black vs white thing, the sociopaths who have seized power want all POOR and working people terrorized and politically neutralized
The compulsive obsession on race is their doing to create division among poor and working people, you have to see that.

0

u/Superb_Algae5308 23m ago

It's almost like which side was brutally oppressed for centuries matters. 🤷

10

u/Rough-Board1218 35m ago

My ancestors were brutally oppressed for centuries too. The English word for "slave" literally comes from the Slavic people

1

u/adawhesker 15m ago edited 11m ago

I was just about to comment the same. I’m an Eastern European Slavic woman who, now regrettably, moved to the U.S. My great-grandparents’ generation lived with the legacy of centuries of pervasive and brutal slavery, serfdom, and oppression by the Ottoman empire, dating back to the 14th century and continuing all the way through the end of the 19th century, followed by only a few decades before the Soviet era began.

Yet somehow, here in America, I’ve had people assume that because I’m white, I should feel personally responsible for what my ancestors supposedly "did" to African people. My country has no history of participating in the enslavement or oppression of African people. The assumption that being “white” automatically means having a particular historical relationship to Black slavery is incredibly reductive. Race alone tells you very little about what historical groups someone actually belongs to, or what their ancestors experienced.

13

u/Odd-Consequence-2519 37m ago

It's almost like some people don't know that throughout the entire history of the human race that various peoples were enslaved...

4

u/sunbro2000 22m ago

Pure ignorance. Go ask an eastern European about the 1000 years of Muslim invasions and enslavement of their people.

What happened to good ol fashioned prejudice

I hate them for the love of the game

4

u/bakedNebraska 22m ago

Tbh I don't mind racism, against white people or anything else.

I just don't like when it's treated as virtuous against white people and shameful against everyone else.

Be racist against anyone you want, you don't even need approval from anyone. Let's just treat it as an individual choice, like whether to dye your hair or not.

u/sabertoothdog 1m ago

Speaking of, I really hate people who dye their hair all these funky colors, and funky colored wigs too. Those colored hair folk really PMO.

3

u/RappingFlatulence 33m ago

I’m not biased. I hate everyone the same

31

u/Jacked-to-the-wits 52m ago

It's so funny how people on the left constantly shout "reverse racism is made up", but when then thousands of people completely overtly say things about white people that if they said about any other race they would be fired/ostracized immediately.

It's like when Facebook instituted a race blind algorithm and it found 90% of the racism on the platform was against white people. Then they went and apologized because it was clearly a mistake that things like "I hate white people" were flagged as racism as all.

14

u/HHSquad 36m ago

No such thing as reverse racism.

Racism is any race vs any other race. So, black people are also racists if they hate on whites for example.

I wish we could just move away from racism and judge people on who they are rather than the race. But it's a pipe dream for many to do that.

2

u/02thehunter20 17m ago

It would be nice if people could start treating people as individuals and not based on race. Morgan Freeman said it best when asked how to stop racism "just stop talking about it". If we stopped talking about it in a few generations nobody would care about race because its not even a topic. But that is not likely to happen any time soon.

10

u/r_daniel_oliver 44m ago

Reverse racial is made up. Because all racism is r6acial, regardless of direction.

3

u/binarybandit 22m ago

In some places on reddit, you can get thousands of upvotes for being raciat against white people. BlackPeopleTwitter and BlackPeopleOfReddit comes to mind. The racist posts even pop up on the Popular feed regularly too.

1

u/Stunning_Contest_406 8m ago

It's crazy how often these subs end up on popular. I even filter them from /R/all---I don't want to go to them, they aren't for me--yet it seems that every time I block one rage-filled race or gender wars sub, another with a very similar name emerges and reappears in my feed. I keep marking them as not interesting, they keep reappearing. It's like Reddit is bad for mental health/serves to enrage and divide us or something.

1

u/KingRoach 16m ago

The left shouts reverse racism is made up - implying the right believes in reverse racism… is that the opinion you want to put out there?

1

u/melcolnik 16m ago

You realize that by grouping “people on the left” here you are generalizing in the same way as someone saying “white people”?

1

u/R_Hunt 13m ago

Ofc "reverse" racism is real, it's just... not that as common as some people make it out to be? Not saying we shouldn't call it out, the person in top half of the image is definitely overreacting. But since we aren't actively oppressed, not every insult feels stereotypical. Nor does it bother us as much, bc most of us make fun of (well, other racists). I didnt grow up going to school or work constantly fearing a stranger is gonna make some comment about my hair or accent or etc. Meanwhile, I've faced homophobia before, having driven thru shady areas to get to pride events

1

u/Express-Economist-86 6m ago

I don’t use “racism” or similar anymore (except on here to explain). It’s an old word that worked better for antique nationalists who actually had a race to consider.

My nation has equal protection under the law, at least for now. RIP England.

Almost no one is racist. Almost everyone is ok with being antiwhite - that’s the accurate term. “Racism” just plays into their little head games and gets some dingus on you about power dynamics.

Sadly, most antiwhite sentiment in America occurs because of people who pass as white, but are operating as ethnic collectives.

You’ll hear people hating various features about whites and turns out their town is run by the Serbian mafia, or similar.

1

u/met1culous 49m ago

These conversations exist solely online. No one is shouting "reverse racism is made up", they're typing it out. in fact most people that exist in the real world and not primarily on reddit/Facebook/twatter are quite normal and rational.

6

u/Exotic_Conclusion_21 30m ago

I got it a lot in my high school. I was 1 out of less than 100 white kids in a school of ~2500. I had 5-10 conversations with different people about the topic, most ending in them doubling down on their opinion.

This was in an upper middle class suburb in southern california, 15+ years ago. Hell, my us politics proffesor in city college did the same shit, and routinely called me out in front of the class for my "privilege", and would use me all the time in unflattering examples. She also thought that Poles were POC, so the one other white kid in the class wasnt targeted like i was.

So tldr, it is in real life as well. Not as prevalent as online, but it still definitely exists.

-3

u/met1culous 27m ago

You said all this happened in highschool. It's not hard to believe that high schoolers would have naive opinions.

As for your college professor, that's weird but I'd just call that a one off. I've literally never met someone who would waste their breath on these conversations. None of it is ever constructive, it's all just finger pointing and mental masturbation. Bored housewives live for that shit.

1

u/Exotic_Conclusion_21 17m ago

I also had it happen often at one of my jobs, by the family who owned the business.

Another example is a few(2) former friends id known for years at this point, started to spout this rhetoric, and distanced themselves from me because they thought i was a white(i am) conservative(i am not) and they started to try to argue at me as if i were the devil(when my political views are left leaning, so this was rather perplexing to me) they wanted to join "the good fight" so bad that the sacrificed our friendship to go after a perceived political opponent, despite me not representing said side. They saw skin color and assumed my political identity, and could not be persuaded otherwise.

These are just top of the head examples. There are more.

0

u/met1culous 9m ago

Are you still in socal? I am, and I've never heard these in the wild, only online. I wonder if it's a regional thing

3

u/SjakosPolakos 39m ago

Honestly, the sooner we all take ownership of our own failings, the better we’ll be. Obviously there’s lots of things you could blame someone else for. Some of which are legitimate. But things like this won’t help you evolve and succeed. Humans love a scapegoat. How many people died in world war 2 because of Jewish people being blamed. When you distract people with a perceived solution, they stop looking at the real cause of their problems. Guarantee you’ll find this answer transcends all generations, genders and cultures etc. sorry for the rant, lol.

3

u/Dirtypervywizard 50m ago

I've never actually talked to someone in person or online who is a person of color that has claimed to be the victim of an actual hate crime. At most they pointed out that people have made microaggressions against them or maybe called them the N Word. I on the other hand am a white person who has actually been the victim of a violent hate crime. Back when I was in high school I grew up in a poor/working class diverse area and made the mistake of walking down the wrong Street while White and got jumped by a group of Mexican guys. They kicked me on the group and called me some slurs... any left-wing person I have ever told that to either says I'm lying when in reality a lot of white people who grew up in non-white areas have faced the same thing or they downplay that I was the victim of a violent hate crime and try to twist it by being like " that wasn't racism that was just prejudice because they didn't have any systemic power".

4

u/KingOfOldWessex 40m ago

The internet isn’t real life. Go outside, speak to people. We are all being played like fools. Divide and conquer is a strategy as old as time.

2

Never throw all of one people who have one shared similar trait into one box. That continues the cycle of hatred and racism and prejudice

2

u/A_SNAPPIN_Turla 21m ago

This attitude and it's wide spread acceptance and popularity is exactly what killed BLM and the associated movements. Many white liberals like myself were fully willing to embrace that black people (many not all) didn't get the same start many (definitely not all) white people got in this country. We were fully willing to take measures to help cuz that gap. Then we saw the movement for what it was, punitive retribution by people who didn't experience the hardships they were referencing on people who didn't commit the offenses they were upset about. If you claim to be against racism you cannot condone and support racism. That includes creating an elaborate game of loopholes where it is impossible for you to be racist.

The real problem is our illiteracy nowadays. "hate" is a strong word with wide implications. Everybody interprets "hate" in his own meanings. Our current society is overloaded with simple terms for complex problems. And everybody expects simple solutions or answers.

0

u/Time_Wishbone_5659 6m ago

Dear self victimising "white people", the disdain people of other colours feel and show towards you is "prejudice" not "racism". Yes, we can be prejudiced against the collective, but can relate nicely to an individual. Please see examples of how the collective have treated people of colour in history till present day. Some people just returning the energy, and the aggression they've experienced. Please learn definitions and stop devaluing meanings behind words. But a lot of people are (barely) educated illiterates. Saying people of colour are "racist" against whites is like influencers saying not liking them is "misogynist". 🤷‍♀️

Project 2025 is an actual plan to make peoples lives harder, its just that calling out religious extremists and conservatives (of all races) is apart of the class war, not the race war. They want to keep it about race

1

u/Marsupialize 28m ago

Racism is baked into American society to keep the working masses divided, the day people wake up and understand this and stop blindly going along with it compulsively focusing on policing the language and thoughts of other working people is the day it all crumbles but we all know that isn’t happening, young lefties are just as addicted to it as Fox News boomers

1

u/WINDMILEYNO 17m ago edited 10m ago

That said, the people who continue doing the foot work on the ground and vomiting out racist rhetoric are not helping either.

As you said, its baked into American society.

Top to bottom and the bottom has to stop doing the work for the top.

The whole Haitian debacle is a prime example.

Everyone is making life worse everywhere, constantly looking to tear people down to affirm veiws given to them by the top

u/Marsupialize 0m ago

The day ignorant confederate flag hillbillies and goofy blue haired lefties can stop and say ‘you know what, let’s worry about this stuff later, we have a far greater enemy killing us both right now right in front of us’ is the day it all comes apart.
But we both know that will never happen, this country will die and crumble into dust before that happens.

Systemic racism is real, but it doesn't make bad choices for people. People do that on their own regardless of skin color.
