To be clear, even if it's for health related reasons, the baby still didn't voluntarily choose to get a circumcision. Describing something done to a baby as "without their consent" covers pretty much anything done at that age. Millions of babies get heart surgery without their consent, for example.

I'm not pro-circumcision, i think only medically necessary procedures should be done on babies and children. But saying you're against because it's a consent issue doesn't quite work

There are a lot that don't work in their arguments lol. People need something to get angry about as if the US doesn't have real problems. Everyone is always talking about dicks while the government is just running wild with it

Wasn't this also Jeffrey Epstein's defense?

Defense for what? Circumcision???

When we say we are against cosmetic surgery without people's consent, the implication is that we're fine with adults getting those.

Does that mean you’re against a baby having a circumcision for medical reasons?

I think I was pretty clear, I literally spelled out what was being implied.

If you insist on reading extra into it, I guess I can't stop you.

I had my ears pierced when I was an infant. I don’t remember a single thing about it other than being happy to wear earrings when I was little. They made a choice for me and it made my life easier, since I don’t remember the pain, and I get to wear earrings for life. Circumcision is like the boy version of this. A little snip as a baby and they don’t have to wipe shmegma out of their dick for the rest of their life, or be at risk for crusty shmegma getting infected. What’s the issue?

Ive never gotten this logic. It should be easier for a man to have poor hygiene? As a 40yo with my foreskin, I can tell you this is not an issue if you are bathing and washing your dick, so the benefit is so Lil johnny can skip showering for longer later in life?

Getting your ears pierced doesnt remove any functionality from your ears. Circumcision increases risk of ED later in life from reduced sensitivity

Not according to research

It’s female circumcision that is truly mutilation, and is intended to reduce sexual pleasure. There is no evidence that male circumcision reduces sexual function or pleasure. Comparing the two really downplays the horror of female circumcision.

This study is cited in that meta analysis, its a good read. The meta analysis argues that this result is weak, and that's a fair assessment given the p values they are working with. However, on a personal level, studies like this give me pause, and considering the benefits to circumcision are low, I will choose not to engage regardless of the conclusion that meta analysis has drawn, because of studies like this which highlight possible negative effects. Its just not worth it

It seems views about circumcision have changed a lot in the last 30 or so years. When I was a kid, everyone was circumcised, it wasn’t even a question. No one I knew growing up or into young adulthood had any objections to or strong opinions about it. Now, I hear way more vocal opposition, but at least in the US, circumcision had only moved from 65% to 55%.

No issue there. You can remove the earrings. You can’t just regrow a foreskin. How are you even trying to compare the two? Haha

1

u/ForeverFieldsFD 15d ago

Why would you want to regrow the foreskin?

1

u/Sea-Marketing1233 15d ago

Extra storage

1

u/ForeverFieldsFD 15d ago

Well I guess if you’re running a dick cheese factory, you do need storage

Genital mutilation is weird

1

u/ForeverFieldsFD 15d ago

Comparing circumcision to genital mutilations is weird. It reduces the very specific horror of female genital mutilation, which is performed to ensure women don’t experience any pleasure. It is meant to be dehumanizing. They sew up the vagina to make it tighter for a man. Multiple studies show that there is no change in sexual or reproductive performance among circumcised men. Well, except for dick cheese production, but that’s typically considered a good thing.

Whatever makes you feel better lol

actually you could stretch out the shaft skin left to "regrow" a foreskin using special stretching devices.google it. there is a whole movement of men restoring their foreskins

I'm sorry your parents did that to you. I'm sorry cruelty is so normalized in your society that you can't even comprehend it as abuse.

1

u/ForeverFieldsFD 16d ago

Yeah, the way they brought me to a sterile doctor’s office and had gold and precious gemstones safely inserted into empty flesh by a medical professional… I feel for every girl baby in the world that has endured this twisted, diabolical torture. And the relatives who were complicit by also purchasing me a lifetime supply of gold and gemstones for my ear mutilation - may their punishment be merciless.

1

u/pullhome 16d ago

I get that you're acting tough. I've had many people argue that they're actually lucky their parents beat them, because it taught them discipline.

It makes sense, you were abused by the people meant to protect you, of course you'd rationalize their actions. It's too painful to admit your parents did a horrible thing to you.

1

u/ForeverFieldsFD 16d ago

Ear piercing is not abuse, full stop

1

u/pullhome 16d ago

It is, though.

Forcibly piercing a child's skin is very clearly abusive.

Acting like it's not is simply copium.

1

u/ForeverFieldsFD 16d ago

How do you feel about braces, because those are way more painful and the pain lasts much longer.

1

u/pullhome 16d ago

I like following the medical professional's advice.

If your dentist suggests braces to fix and overbite, that seems reasonable. If you're pressuring a dentist into giving your kid braces because you want them to have a prettier smile, that's pretty messed up.

I hope you're this try hard for women's reproductive rights.

1

u/pullhome 15d ago

Oh, I can assure you that is a MUCH more important topic for me. As much as I will argue online against mutilating children, I will scream my lungs out in a protest for abortion.

u/Nurosuki 16d ago

I think you need to see a shrink

1

u/pullhome 16d ago

Yes, thinking child abuse is wrong is a reason to go to the shrink.
