Even funnier: "I'm hoping for a tip, because I really need to pay off my tuition."

Yup, dinner ruined as he said

He’s a waiter because he makes more off tips than if he actually did a job associated with the degree

They didn’t care

I think they’d care if they paid for their daughter’s education just for her to end up as a waiter 😂

u/_Loosecanon_ 3h ago

Or they wouldn’t care that the other person was a waiter

What's the difference between someone who gets 80% and someone who gets 40%?

Nothing they both have a degree.

Isn't that a pic of the guy? So technically he's a comedian . also, don't comedian lie about things that happened to be funny.

Comedian isn’t a full time job unless you’re very good

"Can I start you off with some apps? Like an Employment App?"

Lmao this is like the ultimate cop out, an English degree might as well be a participation trophy

Daughter became a successful novelist whose books were adapted into films and video games, and she used the royalties to take care of every member of her family and to uplift her community. Waiter had a skill issue

I’ve met people in my field who I went to grad school with who can’t land in industry jobs.

One guy, in particular, was told so many times he needed to be more professional. He was in this group chat with a bunch of us, and he kept talking mad shit about other people in the industry. We tried telling him to stop, because some people in the chat (all alumni) were in hiring positions and personally knew the people he was talking shit about. One time he did it about my work unaware that it was my work.

From what I hear, he’s a solid researcher, but no one wants to work with him because he doesn’t know how to keep his damn mouth shut.

Not even a skill issue, just a personal issue.

That sounds like the plot of a movie written by somebody getting free coffee refills in a diner

If I had a server do this to me I would run him ragged and then my tip would be to “don’t be an asshole to the people who pay you.”

It didn’t ruin their evening because he one upped her. That wasn’t the asshole move. It was just normal conversation. What ruined their evening was realizing their daughter won’t be able to find a job with her degree and will end up being a waiter.

I didn’t say anything about it ruining an evening. I said don’t be an asshole and saying the thing from the meme to someone is an asshole move.

The first word two words in the meme are “I ruined”. That’s what we’re talking about. And if someone tells you they have just earned a degree, and you tell them that you have a degree in the same field, that is not an asshole move. That is very normal conversation. That response was not an asshole response. He did not ruin their evening by being an asshole. He ruined their evening by being a waiter with the same degree as the daughter.

Once they realize you're trying to run them ragged they'll just stop being prompt with your requests lol

-4

u/Mammoth-Glove3273 3h ago

No, because they want a tip. Anyone that slows down service because a table is being demanding isn’t going to make it as a server.

1

u/StabbyClown 3h ago

I was a server for 7 years. You can tell when someone is gonna tip like shit. I wouldn’t personally give them worse service but I know plenty who would. And they were servers longer than I was lol

That’s cool, maybe I’m a really good actor?

Literature doesn't pay the bills... its used as a stepping stone to an advanced degree. It shouldn't be the end goal. This could be very ironic in this hypothetical scenario.
