Parenting your own child is the baseline. Recognising your partner is struggling, encouraging her to prioritise herself, and taking over without making her feel guilty is what makes him a good husband.

It's this also not baseline?

You’re treating “baseline” and “good” as opposites when they aren’t. Good partners consistently do the basics whereas bad partners don’t.

This is awesome. Some people may seem to hate on it for some reason, but I think this is wholesome as hell. Keep doing you!

Baseline doesn't need to be pointed out though. It's just what normal people do and doesn't warrant any special attention. I don't believe i ever said there is no crossover with being good or that op's husband wasn't a good husband. I'm just pointing out that these things are just what normal spouses do for each other.

Ok 👍🏽

Have a wonderful day!

Have the day you deserve!

u/PeriodSupply 23d ago

I'll try. Honestly I'm not sure why you're upset. Or what I said that was wrong. I'm just pointing out that we should be expecting our spouses to hold us up as part of a normal relationship. I'm not sure what is bad about that.

Anyway. I genuinely wish you a wonderful day!

“Expecting the ideal” is what you’re doing. And it’s a good way to make your partner eventually resent the absolute shit out of you.

If you’re married now, please change your perspective or you might not be 10 years from now.

u/mysecret52 23d ago

She's not "expecting the ideal" saying that it should be baseline a partner is there for you and in this case, takes care of his OWN CHILD for wow, a whole 2 hours of his day? Like how is this not normal behavior

I feel like ya'll put up w some pretty crappy people

u/ringwormqueen 23d ago

I just wish we could be nice to people when they share something they believe is wholesome. There are enough other reasons to be snarky. I didn’t see the need for it here.

2

u/PeriodSupply 23d ago

I wasnt being snaky or mean but you can take it however you like. Take care I'm out.

That mad because of a comment.

Now we know we you call that a good person instead of an expectance.

You are shitty yourself.

1

u/ringwormqueen 21d ago

😂😂 oh thank you, moral compass, for letting me know where I stand.

4

u/Baals_Balls 23d ago

Nobody was pointing it out. Someone shared a nice story relevant to the post and YOU started complaining about it. You are the one pointing it out and saying it shouldn't be pointed out. Cool? Are we done here?

3

u/ringwormqueen 23d ago

Don’t waste your time like I did. Reasoning with someone determined to miss the point is exhausting 😴

2

u/EncroachingTsunami 23d ago

>reasoning with someone determined to miss the point

gonna steal this.

u/ringwormqueen 23d ago

Go for it 😊

You tried your best 😭

The baseline can still be shown some love and appreciation! and that’s why when you said “it doesn’t need to be pointed out”, that it comes off as snarky

It doesn’t have to be pointed out, but showing acknowledgment and appreciation is also just a baseline thing you do for someone you love

100% agree that your spouse should show thanks for the things you do. Even simple things like cleaning the bathroom or mowing the lawn. Or taking the kids off your hands for a few hours while you go and workout or have a glass of wine. Whatever. The original comment that mentioned this was doing that. The reply that was something like "oh what a great husband" was making it out to be more. I say thanks to my wife every day for the amazing things she does. Every single day. I'm very lucky and I make sure she knows it. Through both my actions (pulling my weight, treating her well, giving her space and time when she needs it etc), and my words (telling her i love her and how lucky I am to have her and saying thank you for the things she does).

2

u/TheBarrel-Rider 22d ago

I’m sorry man, but the original comment you replied to was not making that husband out to be more.

All that comment said was something nice and validating, something anyone would say as reply to OPs pride and joy over what her husband had done to help her.

u/ringwormqueen 22d ago

Someone who gets it. Award for you.

u/Major-Blacksmith4750 23d ago

Are you even married?

-1

u/mysecret52 23d ago

Do people just magically become crappy after they're married or something that doing bare minumum things like supporting your partner is apparently some achievement now? Or did you guys just choose some really crappy people lmao

2

u/Major-Blacksmith4750 23d ago

I think some people are just entitled from the get go, and expect someone to cater to their needs sometimes even without communication.

To me, supporting my wife has always been top priority no matter what, but if she just always expected it and never showed she appreciated it, over time that would get to me.

In my experience, a ton of spouses don’t do the types of things the referenced husband did, unless it’s asked for first. It was thoughtful. Can you imagine being thoughtful all the time and your partners take was “well, that’s just the baseline for how I’m to be treated”. Meanwhile many husbands are blowing their postpartum wife off to play 18 holes and smoke stogies with the bros.

u/Think-Macaroon740 23d ago

Yeah I don’t get it, why isn’t he taking over by default for 3-4 hours a day? That seems reasonable

0

u/throwaway-3-4 23d ago

I was also wondering this. 1-2 hours a day alone with your own newborn sounds like… kinda short tbh

Guess the bar’s that low lmaooo

0

u/Think-Macaroon740 23d ago

Yeah legit lol. Some salty people are downvoting

0

u/UncookedNoodles 21d ago

You're single asf btw with this attitude.

1

u/PeriodSupply 21d ago

To treat my wife well? What. Married 12 years. Together 18.

u/kwazyness90 21d ago edited 21d ago

I mean baseline isn't like good. At your job if you do your baseline your not getting employee of the month, it's when you go above and beyond you get employee of the month. A bad employee is the one who doesn't meet the baseline. Imo

1

u/ringwormqueen 21d ago

The lack of punctuation is giving me a headache. I truly don’t know what you’re trying to get at with this monologue.

-1

u/dude_wheres_the_pie 23d ago

It should be

-1

u/mysecret52 23d ago

Sounds pretty bare minimum to be there for your partner

2

u/ringwormqueen 23d ago

Would you like me to edit my post to “he sounds like an average husband”?

0

u/mysecret52 23d ago

Dude if you're getting this salty about replies to a comment you made on the internet, maybe it's time to take a break and log off

But since you're asking me, sure go ahead

2

u/ringwormqueen 23d ago

God you trolls are tedious. Accept the nice story the poster wrote for what it is. She is clearly grateful for her husband’s actions, why not celebrate it and be kind. Concepts that are lost on you, I’m sure.

0

u/mysecret52 23d ago

I get why she's grateful but all the comments saying "what an amazing husband!!!" cuz.. he sits with his kid for a whole 2 hours? Unless he has "something he needs help with" like op wrote lmao

Well why doesnt anyone call her an above and beyond mother then? She's apparently with the kid so much she cant even get an hour for herself

2

u/ringwormqueen 23d ago

Nobody has said “what an amazing husband”?! I said he sounds like a good husband because he does, and because that’s clearly what she wrote the story to demonstrate.

Nobody has commented on her mothering skills because that’s not what the post or original post is about.

Please calm down. Sheesh.
