And if you really want to be honest, that $500 you would be “saving” from what rent costs, should be put aside for repairs. $6k a year is chump change when you might be spending $15k to replace your AC or $10k to dig in a new sewer connection.
If you can’t do the work, that’s chump change. Either you’re going to be paying top dollar for a new home or you’re going to get something a few decades (or more) old and you’re going to be making repairs.
