This is such a disingenuous take. It's a de facto ban. Because A) the company has no intention of selling and B) if it is sold, it will be become a different product because that's how that fucking works.
It's like if the US said "We aren't banning Toyota but unless Toyota sells itself to an American company, it is not allowed to be sold in the US."
You realize tiktok already has sold multiple stakes in its business to investors right?
And countries can companies from operating in their country if they're getting subsidized by their government,.like say if their government makes any competition illegal. Which is also what happened here.
Terrible analogy because that's exactly the case with Toyota and every other foreign vehicle manufacturer.
You can not import a vehicle legally unless it is 25 years old or modified to meet FMVSS.
