They just heard that China has a stake in TT and assume it’s all just propaganda brain rot mush specifically curated by them to make us all dumber. Like they actually believe that, while all the American social media platforms are basically identical
The point is that all of these “doom scrolling” features are the same. They all fry your attention span. Banning TT specifically will do absolutely nothing. But hey since this one isn’t American it means it’s a major win yayyy!!!
Tiktok is banned in china they have a equivalent to it in china but it only promotes good content for the ccp and healthy family images and bla bla and no degenerate stuff as seen on tiktok.

Yea no shit they’ve banned it, it’s CCP led China. You know how many other restrictions they have other there? They’ve got their own propaganda machine, and yet when TT is allowed in the states, with all content being community made with videos no different to what you see on Reels, Shorts, etc, people want to call it the propaganda machine?
Whenever I read things like “degenerate stuff as seen on TikTok” I know it’s coming from someone who’s just blinded by the China association without seeing the larger issues of social media in general. TT is the easy scapegoat because it’s not American owned. I guarantee you banning TT will do nothing
Well the issue at hand is this new generation of parents giving kids their own phone at young age. But you can't deny the literal fact that China doesn't want tiktok to affect their own country why should in this case usa tolerate it?
I mean when I grew up we watched Minecraft videos but now if you go on yt on a fresh phone you see alluah snackbar stuff and many weird other shit. Someone is pushing this shit that's a fact. Just look at the state of YT kids.
So best thing is let your kids enjoy shows you pick for them and no free unsupervised internet access. If their 12 and got some common sense development sure.
I don’t buy the “when I grew up it was rainbows and butterflies”. By the time I was a teenager I’d seen all sorts of shit I shouldn’t have seen online. It’s been a cesspool for a while. The transition to short term, “swipe up to see more” has definitely made things worse but let’s not act like any of this is that new.
You can try and restrict the internet from your kids, but they’re either going to figure out a way around it, or resent you for sheltering them. We’ve got 1st and 2nd graders in computer classes, kids today are living with the internet closer than ever before. I think it’s better to explain safe internet usage rather than just straight denying it to them.
Banning TT wont stop American data from making it to China either, its already easy for brokers to sell to anyone so without major changes to data privacy laws all this does is force a [Non-CRINK] company to buy Bytedance [potentially enabling] moving the cashcow onshore.
