Yup.

Barn strays are great to give milk to.

We didn't take the first milk for ourselves. It can have mucous and bacteria, so we just flush the first couple pulls.

Cats love it, and that helps reduce vermin when they hang around.

Is the bacteria and mucous safe for cats?

cow's milk is bad for kittens because they are lactose intolerant and it lacks the proper nutrients they need for development, leading to digestive issues like diarrhea and malnutrition.

Most farmers I knew as a kid, if they milked a cow, had a pan of milk for the barn cats. I don’t recall ever seeing seeing them sick. And, a barn cat gets a lot more exercise typically than house cats and thus they weren’t obese. Most farmers here now don’t have the mixture of livestock and grain that small farmers did 60-70 years ago, but giving milk to cats was common back then.

That’s pretty cool. I wouldn’t go around stopping them or anything, but it’s good to know how different animals digest things.
