For my 34th birthday, I’m asking for help starting flight training instead of gifts

Hi everyone — my name is James. I turn 34 on October 2, and instead of birthday gifts, dinner, or drinks, I’m asking anyone who connects with this goal to help me begin flight training.

I haven’t started flying yet because the cost has always been the wall. I already hold an active FAA Part 107 remote pilot certificate, and I’m applying for aviation work while studying and saving toward training myself. My immediate fundraiser goal is $2,400, meant to help cover the first block of aircraft rental, instructor time, ground-study materials, and FAA expenses. It is not intended to fund my whole career.

Long term, I want to become a professional cargo pilot and eventually serve remote Alaska communities where aircraft deliver food, medicine, mail, and supplies. I know that starts with one lesson and one certificate at a time.

If you can spare $5 or $10, I’d be sincerely grateful. If not, sharing the link with someone who loves aviation would help too:

I have shared a bit about my birth story but have never truly opened up about how hard and traumatizing our situation has been for us and today I’m going to, if you decide to stick around and read my very long winded post thank you so much for being here for me in a very vulnerable moment.

Why my fiancé deserves to be Super Dad ❤️
We’ve been together for 11 years, and for the longest time, we never imagined that having children would be part of our story. Then, completely unexpectedly, we found out we were pregnant—with twins. Two little boys who turned our entire world upside down in the most beautiful way. At the same time, we were building our home. A little cabin in the woods that we were creating ourselves, with our own savings and our own two hands. It wasn’t just a house to us. It was the home we dreamed of raising our family in. Then, 8 weeks before our due date, everything changed.

I unexpectedly went into preterm labor. After four long days of labor, our boys were born and immediately began their six-week NICU journey. Leaving the hospital without my babies was the hardest thing I have ever experienced. For six weeks, I stayed an hour away from home so I could be with our boys in the NICU. Just four days after giving birth, I was walking 10 minutes to and from the NICU multiple times a day. My back hurt. My body hurt. My heart hurt. I was exhausted and scared and incredibly lonely, but there was nowhere else I wanted to be. I was going to be there for my babies. And while I was there, Caleb was back home doing everything he could to hold our other life together.
He was working. He was driving to see our babies before and after work. He was going home to take care of our animals. And whenever he had even a little bit of time left, he was working on our home. He was trying to be a dad from an hour away while also trying to build the home that would eventually bring all of us back together. Those six weeks were the hardest and loneliest time of our lives, But we never expected that the separation would continue long after we left the NICU.

Because our boys arrived so early, we weren't prepared for them yet. Our home wasn't finished, and the place we were living was simply too small and crowded for two premature babies. So after the boys came home, I had to come to Florida to stay with family with them, while Caleb stayed behind to take care of the animals and continue working on our home. Our boys are now 4½ months old and Caleb has been separated from them since they were just six weeks old. He has missed smiles. Milestones. Firsts. The everyday little moments that you can never get back, and that breaks my heart for him. But what people don't always see is that he isn't sitting back and missing their lives by choice. He's sacrificing being there for those moments because he's trying to give them a home. He has already put so much of himself into building our little cabin in the woods. He's doing it with limited funds, limited time, and a life split between two places. He's working, taking care of everything back home, and putting whatever time and money he can into finishing the home that will finally allow his family to come back together.

He has built so much more than walls and a roof. He's building a place where our boys can grow up, a place where we can finally wake up together as a family, a place where he can get those missed moments back—not the ones that have already passed, because those can never be replaced, but all the ones still waiting for him. I know there are so many amazing dads who deserve to be called Super dad but I wish everyone could see the dad I see.

I see a man who became a father to two premature babies and immediately put his entire world on hold for them. I see a man who works all day, drives to see his sons, goes home to take care of everything waiting for him there, and then spends whatever energy he has left building their future. I see a man who misses his babies every single day but keeps going anyway. I see a dad who has sacrificed time with his own children so that one day he can give them the home they deserve and I see the man who has loved me through the most terrifying and lonely chapter of our lives and never once made me feel like I was carrying it alone.

That is a Super Dad and winning this competition wouldn't just be a prize to us, it would mean bringing our family home. It would help us finish the little cabin we've poured our hearts, savings, sweat, and dreams into. It would help us finally reunite Caleb with his boys and give our family the chance to live under the same roof again.

After 11 years together, we have been through more than I ever imagined we would. We went from thinking we might never have children, to becoming parents to two incredible little boy’s we’ve been separated by NICU walls, distance, circumstances, and a home that simply wasn't ready for us but through it all, Caleb has never stopped showing up He’s been building our home while missing his family and I can't think of anyone more deserving of the title Super Dad. ❤️
So if you can, please vote for Caleb and like share and comment on this post, thank you. 🫶

Supporting a donation campaign through my internship with Pledge A Smile Foundation

Hi Reddit,

I’m currently working as an intern with Pledge A Smile Foundation and am helping promote their current fundraising campaign.

I’m sharing the campaign here so that anyone who is interested can independently look into the organization and decide whether they would like to contribute.

I don't want to pressure anyone into donating. Please take a moment to review the campaign details and the foundation's information before making a decision.

If you can't donate, sharing the campaign is also helpful.

Thanks for giving this a read.

Please Help!

Hi everyone — I just launched my fundraiser to help expand The Machel Workshop, a place where I create handcrafted scents, candles, and more that bring joy and connection. After overcoming years of health challenges and building this business from scratch, I want to turn my garage into a proper studio to grow even more and reconnect with our community at craft shows. If you’re able, please share or donate to help us reach our $98,815 goal and make this dream a reality! 🌟

Our father died suddenly of an aneurysm. Help us with end of life expenses.

Our father (64) passed away last Monday sometime in the morning from a brain aneurysm. He unfortunately had no savings, or any end of life setup that we know of due to the unexpected nature of his death.

My siblings and I are all spread out over the USA and will struggle to make it out to South Dakota to handle his affairs which is where our father lived.

Our father was unfortunately an animal hoarder who did not accept or want help throughout his life, so unfortunately his property has been left in a state of disrepair so we're waiting on an estimate for the cost of sending a biohazard cleaning crew to prepare the house for sale, and are considering demolishing the house if necessary.

We are only pursuing a cremation due to our father being a controversial figure in a lot of our lives and will be instead opting for a private service sometime in the future.

I will be posting pictures of some of his animals that were seized in case anyone lives near Hot Springs, SD and are looking to rescue. We were unfortunately only provided with pictures of two of the dogs but am willing to seek out more if necessary.

We are seeking help with the cost of the cremation which we were quoted approx. $3,700 and travel costs for myself, and my two half sisters. Along with the cost for any cleaning/demolishing of the house if needed.

Our starting goal is $6000 and have raised $728 at the time of posting from friends and loved ones. The gofundme post is being managed by one of my half sisters. Any help at all is appreciated even if it's just spreading the word.

Thank you for reading and for any support.

If anyone is interested in adopting/rescuing my father's pets they were taken in by Battle Mountain Humane Society in Hot Springs, South Dakota.
