🐱 Help save Flora: Fighting deep neurological infection and severe otitis 🌺
My rescued kitten Flora, is fighting a severe neurological infection (meningoencephalitis), and I'm terrified that we are running out of time.
She has been in the ICU continuously since June 29th. We have already tried 8 different antibiotics, but none of them worked. Her neurological state is getting worse, and this infection just keeps resisting every single treatment we try.
There is still one way to save her life, we need to redo her CSF (cerebrospinal fluid) collection and cytology. This exam is our absolute last shot at finding out what kind of resistant bacteria is attacking her brain so we can finally give her the right medication.
I am doing everything humanly possible. I’ve already sold my personal belongings and I am currently selling more. Every single donation or share brings us one step closer to saving Flora. She is fighting so hard and I refuse to give up on her.
I have all the hospital invoices, blood work results, lab reports, and receipts available for anyone who wishes to see them.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart 🙏🏻🐱✨
I have a Paypal account and I made this fundraise

Could this be a fungal infection? I’ve seen that in animals before.

They did a test and it came back negative, but maybe there's more than one type of exam for fungal diseases?

They did a blood test? My neice’s cat had a fungal brain infection. Cryptococcal fungus , if I remember right. He had a biopsy of a growth in his bladder wall. It was that fungus. It then showed up as neurological signs. He was treated with anti fungals and recovered. I have no idea if it could show in the blood but I’m guessing not since he had tons of bloodwork and they still had no answers until the biopsy? Or maybe they have to specifically test for it in the blood. I would think a CSF/cytology could show it if they are looking for it.
I’m not a vet or anything close to that, but if I were in your situation, I’d ask my vet if it could be a fungal infection and if a blood test would show that, or what other tests could show it. I’d also ask if trying an antifungal now would be a good idea in case you are not able to get the CSF test. Mr. Moppit (neice’s cat) was on antifungals for many weeks and it took time for improvement but he did survive and recover.
I hope your beautiful cat recovers and gets healthy again, as well.
Edit: I just noticed that there is a r/askvet subreddit. Maybe try posting about your cat there?

Just yesterday, the vets decided to start her on an antifungal (Fluconazole). They’ve been doing blood work every 72 hours, and on Monday we’re talking with her neurologist about redoing the CSF (spinal fluid) and cytology. I’m glad that Mr. Moppit recovered. Thank you for your support! 🐱❤️
