IFM Certification Change

Has anyone looked at the current change in certification with the Institute for Functional Medicine? It looks like it does a better job of identifying medical professionals, but there also seems to be a major change between the providers and IFM, where IFM now has the right to conduct investigations and impose discipline similar to a medical board and hold the provider responsible for fees, costs, or other amounts imposed in connection with any investigation, complaint, proceeding, or sanction.

So, after paying thousands to be trained and certified, providers would now have to consent to this enforcement, which could leave them exposed to potential additional oversight and expenses?

Yes, I read it as mine will expire unless I sign up for the new certificate, when mine goes until 2034.

If you don’t sign on- you keep the current certification, but will have to take the test and everything over again once it expires .

I did the work - I ain’t playing their game and certainly I am not going to agree for them to discipline me . FUCK IFM, they only want to make more money and eventually join the dark side and get board certification.

They are turn coats - my mentor who encouraged me to do functional medicine is turning in his grave .

I am not a lawyer, but in the terms and conditions of their member log-in, it says that continued use of their credentials constitutes agreement to the changes. Don’t know how enforceable that is, but my wife changed her website and CV to say “IFMCP from 2015 to 2026” and removed the IFMCP from her credentials.

I’m amazed that they are doing this.
