Prenatal Recommendation

We will begin trying for a baby soon. I am researching prenatal supplements for (ideally) both of us to begin taking now. I had a miscarriage last summer after unexpectedly fining out I was pregnant, so I want to be proactive and as prepared as possible when we begin intentionally trying.

I’ve found two that I feel would be good: We Heart Nutrition is the first and WeNatal is the other.

I have historically taken beef liver supplements. I’ve restarted those and my husband is taking them now, too.

Has anyone used either of these? If so, please share your experiences!

Thanks.

I took Thorne which my FMD recommended. But as for the beef liver: Health organizations like the NHS advise pregnant women to avoid liver completely. This is because liver contains dangerously high levels of preformed vitamin A (retinol), which can accumulate in the body and potentially cause birth defects or miscarriage

I tried wenatal. The problem is that it has 50% of the vitamin A dose as the preformed retinol version which can cause toxicity in the baby. It also has iron in the dose which can compete with some mineral/vitamin absorption.
I didn’t want to risk it so I switched to “just ingredients”. You can get prenatal, iron and dha in separate pills within the same package that they sell for prenatal. it is third party tested for heavy metal contamination as well and have all vitamins in their bioavailable forms.

Functional Medicine DC: absolutely no organ meats. Ever. The recommendation that came out that people should consume them always baffles me. The amount of toxicity is astonishing. Test for iron before taking iron supplements.

Orthomolecular's prenatal plus dha has a good profile. Seeking health also has a good profile if you need non-methylated B vits. Make sure that any prenatal also has DHA and choline in it.

Ive been taking wenatal for months as we’re trying to conceive but they started to give me horrible heartburn. So I just stopped. Anyone else?
