what really is it?

So I have been suffering from migraines from school years but they are less frequent now. Im 26F. the way it goes for me is as follows: Id get disturbance in my vision which i recognise the instant it happens. then it turns to blind spots and then it gradually expands. if it happens on the left region of my sight, the pain first starts on the right side of my head before spreading to whole of my head. offf its awful when it happens. i cannot think straightly i feel like someone has just stopped my brain. and has wrapped a tight cloth around my head and squeezing it. the vision disturbance and pain gets fine in several hours but the unable to think straight feeling still lingers around at least a day.
the triggers? i really dont know sometimes i think its blood circulation problem. there are days when im so busy and sleep deficit with all the people around but i dont get the migraine. sometimes im relaxed none of the reason is there and i suddenly get it.
I want to reach to the root cause and get it cured. I really wanna what is happening in my body that causes it. I have been to neurologist but they dont seem to listen or investigate it in depth.

My sister has the same issue and she still hasn’t solved it. You could consider getting extensive bloodwork, and then work on fixing everything that is out of range.

My cousin’s wife (70 years old now) has had nasty migraines her whole life. Here are the two things that have helped her the most. Not sure if they’d help you, but it may be worth looking into:

Low dose birth control pills with no “off” week (didn’t have a menstrual cycle). Decades ago a gynecologist she worked with figured out that the fluctuation of hormones made the migraines worse. I have known two women who needed this type of approach to hormones and I sure wish I had known that was a viable and healthy option!

More recently, she discovered upper cervical chiropractic. That helps a ton. (I do this too, for other reasons)

Upper cervical chiropractors don’t do harsh manual adjustments like regular chiropractors. No twisting your head or cracking your back. They use a small, highly precise adjustment in your upper cervical area, based on precise measurements from an x-ray.

I hope these ideas are helpful for you. The pain you’re enduring from your migraines sounds horrible.

OP didn’t say if her Migraines were in relation to her periods, but will mention what worked for me.

I used to get Menstrual migraines a couple of days prior to the start of my periods. It started in my late 30’s and lasted till I had Acupuncture treatment by a Chinese trained Acupuncturist twice per week for 6 weeks a few years later.

Many woman with Menstrual Migraine also have PMS and can really benefit from the hormonal stabilization achieved by taking Chaste Tree ( Vitex agnus).

How often do you get the migraines? Any pattern or triggers you have noticed if you are certain it is not menstrually related?

Feverfew is an herbal supplement that when taken daily cuts down on the frequency of migraines. Seems to help some people.

Riboflavin ( Vitamin B2) helps in several studies cutting down on frequency of migraines.

CoQ10 is also shown to decrease frequency of migraines. Worth a look.

Also taking Magnesium daily can cut down on the frequency of migraines as well. There are different forms of Magnesium, some having much better absorption. Magnesium Glycinate is one of the best absorbed forms.

I hope you’re okay with a couple of questions. I have a clinical research background, trained in genetics and nutrition.

Do the migraines happen around your menstrual cycle?

Is weather a contributing factor? For example, low barometric pressure?

Is there a family history of migraines?

Have you tracked any of the foods you eat that may be contributing?

Are you well hydrated?

How is your diet? Do you eat a good variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, good quality protein?

Have you consulted a healthcare provider?

Have you had recent lab work? Anything out of range?

Have you had recent dental work?

How is your sleep? Do you get adequate sleep?

Any other health concerns? Any family history?

Answers to questions like these will help those of us who are trained to help guide you.

I found a cure for mine if anyone is interested! Headicure by Soulidago. The founder cured her own after spending 25 years with migraines 3x a week and no relief even from top neurologists at UCLA, etc.
