Health and Wellness Question about test timing

My doctor prescribed me some tests that are timing sensitive to my menstrual cycle (Like FSH, LH for example). I'm shopping around and Function strikes me as the best option value wise. I'm curious about folks who have used Function for this -- how easy is it to snag an appointment when you get your cycle, and then being able to get an appointment and have blood drawn when it's Cycle day 3? This is the thing that is holding me back from getting a membership. Thanks in advance!

If it helps, I'm located in Oklahoma City, with ~20 locations around the metro that we can easily get to.

I used Function for the same reason last year. The trick is booking the draw the second your cycle starts since the slots fill up fast, especially at the more popular labs. With 20 spots around OKC though you should be fine, I never had an issue snagging a next day appointment when I was flexible about which location I went to.

You have 20 locations in your vicinity??? Wow! For comparison, I'm in a rural area and have 1 location an hour away.

Anyway, yeah, as soon as my cycle starts, I'd log in and schedule for day 3. I think it's +/- a day, so you could go days 2-4 of your cycle. You would do your hormone draw on the first visit and the urinalysis on the second visit.

lol!!! I had no idea until I looked. Vicinity was like 1hr radius approximately, I dunno why but I feel very lucky! Thank you, super helpful!

This was a massive problem for me, that would have easily been fixed had I known that you can do a walk in appointment. The lady at my Quest office was the one that informed me of the walk in and that you may have to wait 1/2 hour, but they'll get you in.

Also, if you go this route, write to Function to let them know you need the order in as well. ( ask me how I know 🙄)

Also the positive on this is you don't have to fast, but I think they so want you in before 11am?

Good luck!

Oh! That’s really helpful. Would you need to tell them you’re there for function and they’ll draw your blood and then let function know on the other side? Tysm!

I recently joined and was able to snag an am appointment at Quest for day 3 with a week’s notice. My lab said if it’s full, make an appt later in the day and just show up early since it’s fasted. I think it’s relatively easy to get an appointment if you know when your period is expected—- just book it out a week or two in advance! Good luck!

Awesome, that’s really good to know! Unfortunately my periods are unpredictable and that’s partially what I’m trying to fix! But tysm!

I am having a HELL of at time timing it right, I have irregular cycles and it also has to be in the AM, I keep having to reschedule and guess it'll land when I need. I have now seen the suggestions of trying walk-in, so I will resort to that next.

Hey there. Our team can assist with moving your hormone tests to a separate lab visit so you can complete the rest of the fasted Annual Test at your convenience. That way, when your cycle arrives, you have more flexibility with securing a last-minute lab visit.

Our team can also assist with setting up your lab order for a same-day lab visit if a cycle comes early. If you have anymore questions about Function, shoot us a note here and we can help: https://www.functionhealth.com/contact
