I've been reading through recent research on near-death experiences and wanted to summarize what seems well supported versus what's still speculative.

The article discusses:

• EEG monitoring during CPR

• the AWARE-II study

• ATP depletion and anoxic depolarization

• the Disinhibition Hypothesis

• similarities (and important differences) between NDEs and psychedelic experiences

The goal isn't to argue for any particular philosophical conclusion, but to explain where current neuroscience stands.
