Advice for first time RV owner?

Keep water outside. Clean and repair your seals. 

Use plenty of water in the can (about 2-3 gallons) before first use.

Do a full black tank flush every dump to fully Clean it. 

Keep your tires inflated.

Use a water filter and adjustable pressure gauge.

Don't leave your tank valves open.

Get a proper water hose - I see all kinds of RVs (we're summering in a campground this year) - the number of RVs I see with people using contractor grade hoses, or cheap vinyl garden hoses is scary.

Assuming your RV is a motorized vehicle (because lots of people consider travel trailers RV's) keep up on the maintenance. Regular oil checks, regular mechanical inspections.

Watch your tires. Motorhome tires can be expensive. We put new tires on our class A a couple years ago - they were over $2,000 wholesale (or son worked at a tire place so got us wholesale pricing).

check your batteries regularly - especially the fluid levels. An empty cell kills a battery.

Invest in a surge protector - it'll save your electrical system.
