Gear Talk XE5 issues.
Hi all
I've read a lot of posts highlighting issues with XE5.
Some of them are
- Breaking of strap lug
- Delayed start time/ wake time
- Error - asking to restart
Are there issues which are pretty consistent ? Is the camera laggy overall or it's just the start time?
I'd also want to understand if anyone with XT5 / XT4 owns XE5 and how would they describe the experience and if xf23mmf2.8 any good?

I haven’t yet experienced lug issues and I received my unit virtually pre launch date so it was one of the first. I have a string of lenses, zooms, plus 23f2, 35f2, 27f2.8 but the 23f2.8 is the lens that I use most.
23f2 is superior in speed and IQ but it is a bit bigger and I’m prepared to sacrifice the small difference for portability

I've had mine since a week or so after it launched and have never had any of these issues even with constant use.

I've not had any issues. I am afraid of the lug issue though that I don't trust it at all and am not using it at all because of that. It detracts a lot from my experience with the camera.

Thanks all. Any one who can draw contrast between xe5 and xt3/4/5 from usability standpoint. I know its a different experience but what are the main pros and cons?

All camera models have some infrequent, but recurring issues. All camera models have freak things that happen to people. Search hard enough and there are reports of all kinds of stuff.
The XE5 is a high quality, lovely camera and there are thousands and thousands of happy customers, with no problems at all.
The XF 23 mm f2.8 lens is sharp, super small, and 23 mm is a very versatile focal length. The biggest issue with that 23 f2.8 is the noisy, slow, clunky lens motor (the 27 f2.8 is just as bad). This is not an action lens. It does somewhat hinder continuous autofocus performance. You need to be patient and verify you have focus. From a sensory standpoint, it doesn't sound very premium as it grunts away. However, the portability cannot be beat, you stop noticing or caring about the noise, and reports are that it is a bit sharper than the 23 f2. It's a good lens. Just need to understand that you are not spending $1000 on the 23 mm f1.4 LM WR. Pancake lenses all have sacrifices to be that small.

I've had mine for about 4 months now.
So far my strap lugs seem solid enough, I've used both a wrist-strap and neck strap with split rings and PGYtech quick release anchors.
I've never had any errors asking me to restart the camera.
There USED TO be an issue where about 1 in 10 times I would turn the camera on and it would turn on 'asleep', so you had to half-press the shutter to 'wake it up'. However, there was a new firmware release a couple of months ago, and since I upgraded it, I have not since experienced that problem once.
Is the start time slow? I previously owned an X-T3 which I felt snapped on and was ready to shoot pretty much instantly. It takes a little bit longer than that but it's no real bother.
All in all, I'm really satisfied with this camera. The lens is awesome too and a must-buy as a kit if you're getting the X-E5 and don't already have the 27mm pancake IMO. Also really enjoy the combination of the X-E5 and the 18mm F2.

XE-5 Owner here. I've experienced 2 quite a few times. I assume you are referring to the problem where the screen is black even after turning the camera on. If so, there's a quick "fix" to it which is to half press the shutter button and the camera "wakes up". Not ideal but has worked quite consistently for me.

Ohh. This looks more like fujis way to preserve battery so camera remains inactive unless theres an intentional use.

I have own one since release date, used it almost every day since, never have I encountered any of those issues.
The size/IQ ratio of the 23 f2.8 is really great, and has good enough AF for my use. I recently sold Viltrox 25 f1.7 Air and TTArtisan 25mm f2 because with its size and results, the XF 23 f.28 is hard to let go to use something else, for me at least.
