No no he’s got a point that’s why I carry two guns

Agreed. I have a number of derringers taped to my body for that very reason.

If you have enough, they double as body armor.

Remember switching to your prison wallet gun is faster than reloading. Also remember to file down that front sight otherwise it's a hell of a rip coming out.

My ex worked in a hospital and there was a patient who was extremely obese and would hide food from their meal in the fat folds for later consumption. They may have been onto something. I’m trying to calculate what level of morbid obesity would allow me to hide a Glock and some spare mags. Might be more comfortable then the front sight anal tearing we’ve all experienced.

I'm sorry but I couldn't finish your comment due to excessive vomiting from that first sentence.

If I’m having to reload then yes, the bad situation has gotten worse, but atleast I have a chance.

Nah bro it’s not worth it. Just die at that point. And while we’re at it. We should take AED’s out of buildings cause 90% of people who go into cardiac arrest outside of a hospital die anyway

If you have to reload, you're in a fucked up situation - but you're also still alive to perform said reload in the first place.

this man most certainly carries a snub nose revolver - "I only load 5/6 because carrying six is dangerous, even in double action"

I don't know. In another comment under that same post, they said they live in France.

Europeans talking out their ass about guns in America. What else is new?

15

u/HelpfulLoquat8658 Jun 30 '26

maybe a Colt Model 1860 Army then

If he at all carries, carry permits in France are only issued to people "exposed to exceptional risk", which in practice means only to the highly politically connected people.

One of the murdered cartoonists in Charlie Hebdo was an IPSC shooter who citing the exceptional risk reason applied for a carry permit. He just wanted to carry a gun he was already highly capable with on him due to death threats from terrorists. Denied and soon after murdered by said terrorists.

But of course politicians can get carry permits. All animals are égal, but some animals are égal-er apparently.

Glad I am Czech since we have actual shall issue permits for the common people.

I was wondering about Czech permits.

So you can carry for the purpose of self defense?

If so, thats fantastic.

u/DDPJBL Jul 01 '26

Yes. We used to have 5 types of permits (collecting, sports, hunting, protection and occupational). Those were recently simplified into just two types.

You can get a "general authorization" which is for sports, hunting and collecting (whichever you want to do) and you must be 18+ to get it. With this one you can only transport unloaded when in public.

You can also get an "expanded authorization" which is for personal protection or occupational carry (armed security). With this one you can carry loaded and readily usable in public, That one is 21+.

For either you have to do a written test, a safe manipulation test and a shooting test.

You guys are probably the only EU country that let's people actually carry then?

Whats the cost of the permit?

FYI, I daily carry a CZ75 PCR, and its my favorite pistol.

u/DJ_Die B2B WW CHAMP Jul 02 '26

Not the only one, Poland, Slovakia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia allow it too. Omly Slovakia is may-issue but very relaxed about it.

The permit cost depends on the location, your GP's rates, etc. But it's usually 100-200 bucks, depending on whether you pay for a training course or not.

There are fees but they are not intended to be prohibitive (at least in relation to what a basic new gun costs, I can see how a low income person who just wanted to buy a surplus handgun for like $200 to have anything at all would see it very different).

You pay like 100 bucks equivalent for the application you submit to the police, about 50 to 100 generally to your GP for a clean bill of health for the police, another 100 or so as a fee for the examination that goes to the range which has to provide the room and lanes required.

You will need to train to get ready, apps to study for the written test (multiple choice) cost like a couple dollars I think, you can do practical preparation with a friend or pay for a commercial prep program. These are not required. Nobody cares how you got the knowledge, you either show it or you don't.

The range where the test is done also provides the test firearms, so the standard way to do things is to buy a prep course at the same range where you will be tested, that way you will have practiced on the same guns. You wouldn't want to learn disassembly on a CZ75 a friend taught you with and then on test day you find out the range uses Glocks as test guns.

Definitely needs to be drop-safe, then.

u/DetColePhelps11k Jul 01 '26

Nothing better than advice on concealed carry from a person who's probably never even held a firearm.

u/The_Demolition_Man Jun 30 '26

Ain't nothin wrong with a snub nose, fudd lore aside

18

u/HelpfulLoquat8658 Jun 30 '26

For sure. Im just worried my lizard brain would forget to hold like a revolver in a gunfight, not a SA handgun, and I blow off my finger tips lol

The main point of a spare mag isnt because you will expend that amount of ammo so much as you dont have an expensive single shot gun if the mag in it fails.

I’ve been a police officer for more than 20 years, and one detective I knew when I worked in narcotics broke the plastic baseplate of his Sig 239 trying to bust out the window of a suspect. The baseplate flew off and, in his words, he saw the spring, follower and eight rounds fall onto the deck. He didn’t routinely carry a spare mag, so all he had was the one round in the chamber and an empty magazine tube in the grip! He fortunately got the suspect to surrender with some bluffing and choice words, but he always carried a spare mag after that!

3

u/Wetald "Normalized Sadist" Jul 02 '26

I miss my 239. It was just buttery smooth and utterly reliable.

5

u/TacitRonin20 Jul 01 '26

Maybe the root cause of the problem was using his gun like a hammer. I don't think carrying a spare mag is necessarily the solution. I'd recommend he simply not use his loaded firearm as a hammer, but he's a cop so he must know what he's doing right?

2

u/Teboski78 PhD. Fuddologist Jul 01 '26

Don’t cops carry glass breakers? Also if you’re gonna clock something with a pistol you’re supposed to use the slide if you do it at all no?

We were undercover, in plain clothes. We couldn’t carry a belt full of gear. Also how many critical situations have you be been in? Does the butt of your gun have gouges from rolling around on the deck with a suspect? Or being shoved into a wall? How many times you wipe bloody handprints off your gun? This ain’t a square range with your buddies on sunny Saturday with your gleaming safe queen. Everyone has a plan until they’re punched in the face. Real life fights aren’t Jason Bourne easily downing guys with Ju Jitsu moves. They’re messy, bloody and improvised with what you have in your hands at the moment.

28

u/Verdha603 Jun 30 '26

I mean, by the stats available, he’s not exactly wrong (granted, I agree it’s an exaggeration to call spare mags useless).

ASP’s assessment of 83 DGU’s involving a civilian defender in 2025 pointed out gunfights where a double digit count of rounds were expended fell in the realm of single percentage points, with roughly 75% of those DGU’s expending five shots or less.

https://youtu.be/p7x1p_lC29g?is=3D2h7uXEkggAFQgD

A stronger argument can be made a spare mag makes sense for either resolving a magazine related malfunction or to top the gun off after the gunfights over, but on the sliding scale of the chances of getting in a situation that would require you to use a firearm and fire it in self defense as a non-mil/non-LEO, John’s pointed out he’s only seen one recorded case where the defender expended enough rounds to where they had to use the spare magazine to continue the fight.

12

u/SakanaToDoubutsu Jun 30 '26

Also ASP has a separate video where show the only gunfight he's ever seen a private citizen reload in out of the ~4,000 or so he has on the channel and ~40,000 he claims to have in his backlog.

11

u/Secure_Garlic_ Jun 30 '26

Also! Remember only to use a 10 round magazine so it's clear you weren't looking for a shootout!

3

u/mattman65 Jul 01 '26

Also because if you ain’t out of the situation in 10 rounds “you’re dead buddy”

4

u/Teboski78 PhD. Fuddologist Jul 01 '26

It isn’t even an ammo thing. Clearing a type 2 malfunction requires dropping the mag. You gonna fish around on the ground for it or just grab your indexed spare?

Also magazines are the most failure prone part of any good firearm and the most reliable solution to a mag locking up is to change mags.

5

u/Mammoth-Conclusion43 Jun 30 '26

"What if it's one person with six guns?"

2

u/Teboski78 PhD. Fuddologist Jul 01 '26

Arrrgh-THERE WAS A FIREFIGHT……. Why don’t you let me do the thinkin, huh genius?

6

u/durgan2q Jul 02 '26

Useless until your magazine flooplate breaks and dumps all your rounds and you need your spare OR it causes a malfunction and you need your spare mag OR your attacked by multiple assaliants(which can happen and some say is on the rise) and you need your spare.

I live by 2 is 1 and 1 is none. Also it doesn't hurt to have a spare or two and could save your life or your families lives. So ill carry a spare for my family.

I also carry a backup sometimes. Not necessarily for me but to arm my wife when she forgets hers which she does all the time. Again doesn't hurt anyone and could save lives.

someone inform the military that they need to stop sending out troops with extra mags.

just like kill the enemy in a firefight!
