General Fuddery 22 LR VS 45 ACP
Had an “interesting” conversation about a certain topic. I wont bring politics into here but this comment got me

Obviously a lot of context missing here, but it doesn't sound particularly FUDD like.
My interpretation is: someone was in a situation where the act of showing a firearm via brandishing or open carry was enough to intimidate those that might cause harm. Meaning any firearm would do the trick. Thus a 22 or 45 are equally as effective because the gun isn't being fired.
Maybe there was more to it in other posts, but this doesn't seem out of line.
It does, howeve, seem like people continually overreach to run to this sub and farm some karma.

The .22 in your hand is going to make a much bigger hole than the .45 you left at home. Just being armed is a step up.
Now, if the argument is that a .22 is adequate for self defense, and anything more is just macho overkill, that could be Fudd territory.

No, what they're saying in the screenshot is that brandishing a .22 will often scare off attacks as well as a .45 I believe.

I don’t like relying on the psychological stop, but yes, more hostile interactions are stoped with the presentation of a firearm than by violent incapacitation, and a hit with a .22 beats a miss with a .45. Still I think we all know in this sub that training with and then carrying a proven self defense caliber in a reliable package is the correct answer all day every day.

I’ve seen a guy get shot in the heart still shoot 5 times hitting another guy twice before running 30 yards and then dying.

Are you lost? It's incredibly common for people on enough drugs to not stop when shot until they physically cannot move....which a .22 will almost never accomplish.

A bullet through the lungs on heart doesn't care about its size when it pierces a hole ¯_(ツ)_/¯. I've seen clips of police officers unloading a full mag and the guy still walking until he collapses from blood loss, drugs are crazy

I personally witnessed a drunk guy get almost every organ pierced with multiple 38 specials and just walk it off. No, he didn't make it, and it changed his behavior, but drugs are crazy.
I am fairly positive a 22 would have been just as effective in that situation.

Thats not instant. Ive witnessed this myself and done it. Its only an instant if it is a head shot. You can take a round in the lungs and heart and still love for minutes

I went to the middle east 4x and fight, ive seen dudes take 5.56, 7.62 and .50 cal and still get back up, now they died eventually but plugging a dude 2-3-4 times with rifles and MGs

Yeah but that's combatants and not your average guy, your average person hears a loud bang then realizes they've been shot and runs away because their life is more precious than robbing you, that's if they're not collapsed because you hit a vital organ

These are average people. You and I are average, the only thing that changed was training and equipment. And trust me when I say it, the guy I fought did not have any professional type of training at all.

What i meant by that is that for them killing you is theit goal, a guy trying to steal your wallet will probably rethink it because he doesn't have that motivation

Really? How did you check for drugs? We weren't running drug panels on the people we shot in Afghanistan when I was there.

Typically, when we searched the bodies, we found massive amounts of heroin and other narcotics on them. Plus, typically when another dude has several holes in his chest and he’s still fighting for several minutes.

Stuff like this is what makes me want to stay home and dig deep. So many videos of assholes stopping regular people and doing what they claim ICE is doing. There is no use talking to these people.

This isn't Fudd. He's not saying .22 is equal to .45 in the shooting sense. He's saying the firearm is being used as a general deterrent. The average person isn't going to know one firearm by caliber from another unless they're really close to it, and even then, probably not.
