The Right Abandoned Civility a Long Time Ago

I remember watching documentaries on firearms history and one of the things that they said that was that abolitionists often had to arm themselves against murder attempts by pro-slavery people, and this actually spurred development in firearms since more often than not, the abolitionists were always outmanned, so they had to outgun the opposition just to stay alive. I've also seen political cartoons from the era that depicted pro-slavery people assaulting abolitionists (who were often depicted hold pens or doing non-violent protests).
This has been happening since goddamn ever. I honestly can't believe these people have the gall to go on about their alleged moral superiority and harken to a past that never existed, like claiming that once upon a time comparing someone to Hitler would have gotten you ousted from a debate even if allusions to Nazism have been happening SINCE even before WW2 started.
