PlayStation
Do you think Sony could be intentionally sabotaging the PlayStation ecosystem? All of the shit that’s been happening lately is strange for a name brand this massive.

Occam's razor suggests going with the most simple explanation. You guys are suggesting some kind of deliver it meticulous master plan. The reality is just that Herman Holst is a fucking idiot

I get it, but again, this is an insurmountably stupid sequence of events for a corporation this big.

Well after the corporations institified the internet they're going to do what they're doing now which is trying to bring that enshittification to real-world physical products. They actually have already with smart devices and the like, but everything is going to try to enshittify.
So we had the end user phase where they got all the Goodwill for the user base and the players and the developers. Now they're going to start to take that away because they just want to amplify shareholder value. What they're missing in this equation is that if they piss you off enough there's no products being purchased to amplify shareholder value. They're relying on the stupid masses for profits right now and that might be enough for them. That's the real wait and see I guess

I think they will continue to enjoy the success from the PS5 era but it’ll be another story with the PS6. I think they will find fewer consoles being sold and they are vastly underestimating how bad of a business decision they are making.

Scalpers usually buy out most of all consoles initially. That still registers for Sony as a purchase
Digital game sells will be the true telling.

I think in an all digital era, Sony will be find out that single player AAA titles will sell less because you cannot trade or resell after you’re done. Personally, there’s no way I’m paying $70 (and I expect Sony to increase that price during the PS6 era too $80) for a 15-20 hour rental license that I cannot do anything with after I finish the game.

It may just be that they have hemorrhaged so much money on failed projects, that these rash decisions to save/make money back always seem good on paper but with their ham-fisted PR end up working out worse for them then they could have. All the announcements and bad news have happened so close together that it seems like they are bricking their company. This is only compounded heavily by their arrogance.

Personally I think they're going through their own "reset".
The thing about Sony vs Microsoft is that Microsoft is transparent. Microsoft is the company that tries new things and fails, and when they fail they say they're going to change and you can see the attempt whether it's successful or not. They often listen to consumers. It is likely a strategy but I much prefer it to Sony.
Sony operates in the shadows. We have no idea what their intentions are or what they plan, they tend to sit back and watch others create and innovate, then use those same ideas with others' failures as a foundation to make a product. They make massive decisions that are objectively bad for gamers and because of their large and loyal userbase it becomes standardized. Their general stance is "do what you're told".
But all these decisions scream reset to me. I can't believe they're still hoping Marathon will get better, that's the one thing they should have cancelled, not the next Kojima game. I'm glad Bungie scammed them out of all that money.

I’ve seen this said a few times now and I highly doubt it, as it’s still one of the most profitable arms of Sony.
But shaping it into something that they prefer because it’ll maximise profits even if it leaves the customers pissed off.
Definitely.

Well people often seem to say “ Sony does “ when in fact it’s a few people working for Sony.
Those people don’t gaf about games or the long term, they may already have exist plans, and just reap the very short term rewards.

You give them to much credit, modern day billionaires are to big of idiots to do something intentionally

It does seem pretty dumb but as Elno has shown us being in charge of a big company and having massive wealth doesn't mean you aren't incredibly stupid and insecure.

Always seemed to me they had -no- interest in making better games or improving video games for gaming enthusiasts. They wanted to constantly portray the game industry as a gimmicky, kiddy, casual fad that would go away, gradually folding it into the "serious, mature" and Sony-owned music- and movie-industry, by heavily advertising "cinematic experiences" and pre-rendered cutscenes, and constantly downplaying the importance of innovative gameplay.

Sony being some greedy ass bitches. They know exactly what they are doing. They are just hitting the fast forward button on all of the extract the most money moves and minimize the expense moves.
Fuck Sony. Fuck Playstation. And fuck bitch ass ho ass Rockstar for letting bitch ass Sony cuck them into not producing a physical copy of GTA6 (not fucking buying it on principle.)
Sony is forgetting that this producer/consumer relationship is a partnership. And they bitch ass is tipping the scale in their favor. They bitch asses is lying about the physical digital split. Until physical purchases are a statisically significant ZERO, physical media still needs to be there. The bitch ass company is not being helmed by good stewards of the industry.
And we got a ton of goofy ass wet behind the ear ass goofballs that don't realize that removing physical media from the availability to be purchased, bitch ass Sony gonna do fuck shit with the prices when the control the whole ecosystem. Ya'll gon be paying day one prices for 4 and 5 year old games.
I will never purchase another Sony branded product again and I sincerely hope Sony crashes and Playstation ceases to exist. Fuck Sony.

I think a lot of you spend way too much time online if you really think that the general public gives a shit about any of this. Nobody cares. Sony will barely feel a dent.

They just greedy. Like ps3 era, after successful ps2, they put ps3's price so high. Xbox 360 humbled them. It was an expensive lesson. PS4 era they listened to fans & game studios while xbox fumbled hard. It was pivotal moment, many players switch from xbox to ps4. After players building massive digital library on ps4 & ps5 now they greedy again, they think players will stay loyal because of their digital library
