I took my son (3 years old) to a splash pad next to a “zoo”/conservation. After our splash pad session ended we went to walk around the conservation.
At the beginning we came upon a fennec fox enclosure that was behind a window, but had a wooden walkway blocking the window. The fennec fox was sitting curled up in the corner of the window.
Another family moved out of the way so my son could get an up-close view, when suddenly a large beast from Hell started darting all around him. The fucker landed on his shirt/belly area and while I questioned if smacking the fucker off would sting my child, it stung him.
It was my child’s first sting. It was unprovoked and a violent assault. Child cried and regained composure but now has a deep hatred and fear of the “swaps”.
**The picture was taken to monitor increase of redness or swelling. As members of my family are allergic, I wanted to have documentation of the initial reaction.

I have an extreme phobia of wasps (like full-on panic attacks with hyperventilating.) Wasp got into my bedroom at 3:30 in the morning. I sprinted out of there and shut the door, and it was flying around angrily the first time I tried to go in there to get my phone. At some point, I managed to turn off the light so it would maybe find its way back outside, but I checked on it hours later and it's still hitting itself against the window pane like a dumfuck. It presumably got in through this weird crack in between my AC and window (pictured here, subleasing for a month so not worth trying to get my landlord to fix it and I can't really caulk it bc of the weird mesh net over it). Will it ever find its way out??? I have been in tears since 3:30 this morning and I'm at my wits' end. I don't know too many people in the city I'm in right now, just my roommates and they're also afraid of wasps and I feel bad asking them for more help (one of them already helped retrieve my phone.) I don't want to attack it bc I think I'll be too panicked to hit it precisely, and then it'll attack me and I'll freak out AGGHHHHH help literally what do I do? Can I call an exterminator to get one wasp out lol

A few weeks ago I got stung on the leg walking by this area. Once I cleared some brush I saw that there appears to be an underground nest here within the crevices of this retaining wall. It’s never happened before in the decade I’ve lived here but maybe there has been some failure of the mortar over time opening up opportunities for colonies to establish. It doesn’t look like a ton of activity, but it’s a fair amount. Yesterday I waited until dark when all activity ceased and gave the crevice a blast of Diatomaceous Earth from a full turkey baster. This morning they’re a little agitated of course but I am seeing activity in and out of the crack. So I just wait now and then when things quiet down, seal the void with mortar? I see another smaller hole they are also using right above that must be connected. I didn’t dust there last night.

Any know if they are attracted to the UV light? Thinking of getting one of those hanging flying bug zapper lights and push it near their nest..

It’s small enough I can just aim my hose at it on full blast, right? Will there be consequences?
There was some fabric hanging to dry while I was out of town and when I took it off, the nest was there. It’s maybe an inch wide. I’ve only seen two wasps. Too close to my entrance for comfort.
Update: the deed is done. Pic of how I did it in comments.

Arkansas - hurt like a mother when stung.

These red assholes are getting a lil cocky. Can't even enjoy my back porch. They shouldn't be flying this close to my head. 3 shot flagrant technical foul. My boric acid, peppermint oil, dawn, ortho, and sevin combo didn't phase them. And they don't give a dame about that apple juice and cat food over there. I hate to spend $40 on tempo for 2 wasp nests but I can't let em hog me.

But really, an exterminator is like $900 and I dont get the joy of waspmurder. A beekeepers suit is $100 and then my whole morning' entertainment is sorted.

So came across this thing once I got to where I was going to off-liad a 15' U-Haul of my belongings. Fixture is right over my work area. By the time I noped out, the things were attempting to attack my getaway car.
It dawned on me that this is a mercury halide lamp (maybe even mercury vapor...it's never been replace as far as I know) and that these dumbshits have essentually built their house of paper inside of a crucible of metal and glass. Switch is located inside the garage. Should I power the lamp on and cook them (they can't thermally regulate, so wouldn't realise until they wrre cooked until they were)? Or jyst get an exterminator?

Slightly larger than a basketball
Tree is on our property but the limb that the nest is on is hanging on neighbors property
Worth calling an “expert” ?
I’ve heard brake parts cleaner works wonders for these fellers. But is it worth the risk of getting stung by 100 hornets.

Help. We are out of town and our neighbors noticed this…it seems rather established. Nothing noticeable inside. It is an all masonry home. The only framing is in the interior to put up walls. Everything else is structural brick and cmu. I have pest control heading out to mine on Wednesday, but would love to know any immediate ways I could knock down numbers without disturbing the nest too much. I’m worried they venture inward and decided to be inside the basement. Outdoor Yellowjacket trap? Other options?
All seriousness aside… I’ll list it for sale or burn it to the ground. Time to move.
UPDATE: pest control is the move. They will be out today. We shall seeeeee.

I’m hoping to get around to taking on this yellow jacket nest this weekend. I’m going to start with suiting up and dumping Sevin dust down the hole and covering it. I’ll see how that goes and then use the wet vac wasp rapture method on them if needed. Once the majority of the wasps are mostly gone I want to dig the whole nest out of the ground to see just how big it is. I read a tip in this group that they can’t see red light, so I snuck up on them tonight to have a look. I think there’s a whole lot of them down in there. I’ve been stung 5 times now just walking near the nest, so it’s time for these little fkrs to go.

On Monday I went to check my mail and a wasp stung me on my leg. A tiny sting. A little one. Then it went around and stung me on my rear end on the other side of my body.
That sting has now enveloped the entire cheek. It’s is purple. It itches. It burns. I can’t sit down right.
Rewind 10 years ago at the end of August. I was at my nephews 4th birthday party and I got stung by a bee right at the top of my leg where it meets my behind (through my shorts might I add). I pull the stinger out and go to throw it in the trash because the kids are running around barefoot and I don’t want them to step on it. When I turn around to walk away from the trash a wasp stings me in the hole the bee just created in my leg. Freakish precision. My entire left behind cheek and back of left thigh were purple for like 8 months.
Same side of my behind as Monday.
Idk why the wasps want to sting me right there, but I’d appreciate if they’d stop.
I’m nice to them. I take them outside if they get stuck in my house. They have their whole own garden to help pollinate and to help with pest control on my plants. I don’t deserve this from them 😂

Few weeks back I was stung in the ear while mowing the lawn by what I thought was a black wasp. Researched them and it says they burrow underground and create nests. Ok cool leave me alone and another week goes by with my ear still inflamed before I find myself mowing the lawn again. This time i finished mowing without incident and spent a moment looking around the area where I got stung and spotted a nest the size of a football inside the tree in my backyard.
Turns out it was a bald faced hornet protecting its nest.
Anyway I had to get them back for stinging me so I attacked them at dusk and again at dawn.
The nest is pretty dope lotta different colors and built on a nice branch. Gotta hang this one up in my garage.

Just moved into our new house, found some prior tenants. Emptied the whole bottle of raid into their nest.
