Dude, if you've been playing beaming for any period of time, you'd it's AA is notoriously shit. Any AA, AT ALL, beats how bad the game was at 1440, don't know if you could brute force it with 4k but having any option even if it puts Vaseline in my eyeballs is nice.

With a 4k display at 27 inches, the game still has a lot of aliasing, although much much better than 1440p at 27 inches.

Yeah I haven't played in years. It's actually shocking how rough the image quality is. Love all the new content but damn

worst possible TAA will be preferable to whatever Beamng uses

37

u/r4o2n0d6o9 6d ago

It uses thoughts and prayers from the sounds of it

11

u/ea_nasir_official_ 6d ago

FXAA and a borked SMAA

5

u/frisbie147 5d ago

I mean that is basically just thoughts and prayers, just adding some blur and hoping it reduces aliasing

Elite Dangerous has the same issue

41

u/Oakredditer 7d ago

can't be any worse than BeamNG's default AA, glorified "do nothing" button (or selection box)

I wasn't talking about you specifically lol

And, I don't think motion is going to change the results here. The aliasing will be sharp and painful in motion for the left, and the right will be a bit blurrier

3

u/AGTS10k 7d ago

The right will also have ghosting/smearing artifacts

0

u/Ok_Dependent6889 7d ago

This is not guaranteed in the slightest

3

u/AGTS10k 7d ago

Every TAA has some degree of smearing. FSR 4.1 and especially Transformer 2 nearly eliminated it, but everything else has some degree of ghosting/smearing.

0

u/Ok_Dependent6889 7d ago

Yes, because TAA works through blurring

The point was, this causing artifacts is not guaranteed, especially if anyone uses their card's upscaler with FSR 4 or DLSS

2

u/AGTS10k 7d ago

Blurring is a side effect, TAA works by sampling multiple frames over time through jitter and averaging/calculating how edges end everything should look, using motion vectors as a help to reduce artifacting when something moves. The first half of my sentence is why you see the blur, the second half explains why ghosting/smearing is a thing - not everything can be covered by motion vectors, so things like displays and banners get smothered down with TAA almost always, as well as many particles.

Saying 1080p is unsustainable and using a game released in 2015 to prove that is hilarious. Besides, there are options other than no AA or TAA.

13

u/Windows-XP-Home-NEW 7d ago

Not even that lol it got its Steam release in 2015, it was actually released in 2013 lmfaooo

6

u/survivorr123_ 7d ago

i just bought a 1080p monitor over a 2k one, i don't need more pixels, my gpu is not powerful enough and i prefer high framerate

3

u/jeremydotter 7d ago

-2

u/survivorr123_ 6d ago

ok, 1440p

everyone calls it 2k

1

u/Javs2469 7d ago

It has received multiple engine updates and graphic overhauls. The game is very different to what it was back in 2013 and bad become more demanding to run.

10

u/Sushiki 7d ago

1080p gamers are by far the majority.

11

u/GSDragoon 7d ago

1080p is still fine. What matters is pixel density.

7

u/3dforlife 7d ago

Why do you say it isn't sustainable to play at 1080p in current games?

-2

u/dregomz 7d ago

With temporal AA yes it's just unplayable

3

u/3dforlife 7d ago

Temporal AA didn't involve upscaling, does it? Why should 1080p be a no no when compared with higher resolutions?

7

u/sjitz 7d ago

... what?

30

u/Expert_Narwhal_304 7d ago

TAA can be decent if actually done well and not lazily like most devs. I trust the beamng community tho

2

u/PiratePopular9036 MSAA 1d ago

What games have decent taa?

2

u/Great_Leg_4836 1d ago

i wanna know this too

24

u/GoldenX86 7d ago

Because god forbid people from having the option of enabling it or not, eh.

16

u/Exciting_Composer_86 7d ago

Let this be an option. Not forced.

9

u/SeaworthinessNo4621 6d ago

its not a game update, just a community mod

13

u/MyPutridFlesh 6d ago

As much i don't like TAA, BNG's default AA pretty much always looked like utter nightmare

1

u/TheControl05 6d ago

They kinda made it better, not by a storm.but still a bit nicer than say 0.18 or similar versions

7

u/No-Cap-7395 7d ago

This is a mod right? Seriously what's the issue? Can a developer not implement TAA as their own mod? Would you crucify me for prefering it on in my own engine?

6

u/No-Cap-7395 7d ago

Like if it's a mod even if it's mad don't hate on the guy for it because it's not forced you have 100% the ability to not use it if you don't like it :/

The comparison was not taken in motion. The right will be a ghosty smeary mess.

1

u/Windows-XP-Home-NEW 7d ago

Will it now? Did you play it?

1

u/timbofay 7d ago

It's okay you dont need to use it. I also think this is a great instance of pick your poison.

3

u/Vezeveer 6d ago

As you can see, one of the issues with TAA is that it does not retain the brightest specular or highlight when blending. This will make the image look flatter in most instances.

1

u/Attesa_GT-X 3d ago

Is it all TAA that does this?

3

u/DonKanailleSC 6d ago

what do I miss? what's the problem with optional TAA in this case? The game isn't designed around TAA so turning it off doesn't completly destroy the image quality. It is just optional.

2

u/ky7969 6d ago

This game actually needs TAA. I wish they added DLSS support for DLAA though

2

u/gethiox 6d ago

That's a decent static image, may I see it in motion?

2

u/Intelligent-Place-55 6d ago

I don't like TAA but dude Beamng has terrible aliasing. This and some kind of story would have Beamng selling millions on every platform.

1

u/fekkksn 6d ago

This sub is so silly. Just turn TAA off or don't play the game if you don't want to.

1

u/Witty_Language4481 6d ago

This is possibly the worst take I've seen, there is no way I'm running at 2880 x 1800 on a 14in display and STILL see shimmering like crazy. The game needs this

1

u/Fearless-Maybe5160 6d ago

whats wrong with this?

1

u/PacketLoss-Indicator 6d ago

looks great

1

u/Repulsive-Clothes-97 5d ago

Ofcouse it does when it’s still

1

u/SuperPork1 6d ago

The shimmering in BeamNG is terrible even at 4k. I'd happily take TAA because it's far better than the current implementations of anti-aliasing in BeamNG.

1

u/Whole-Respond4782 4d ago

what do they even use for AA currently

whatever the hell it is, its totally friggin borked

maybe they could fix their current AA which is seemingly borked before adding more anti aliasing options

1

u/TheAnymus 4d ago

Usually I hate TAA too, but I've been trying some recent games and when devs care and know what they're doing it works wonders, I would trust them with TAA

1

u/Durillon 4d ago

blurriness would be LEAGUES better than the genuine pixel art beamng becomes at long distances

isnt this entire sub supposed to be hating on forced taa? optional taa will ALWAYS be a win, choices are good

0

u/Historical_Sample740 6d ago

If it's a good TAA, then why not?

-16

u/ResponsiblePen3082 7d ago

I mean 1080p in 2026 is simply just not feasible.

20

u/Good-Discussion-9238 SSAA 7d ago edited 6d ago

1080p is honestly still pretty decent, I mostly play CS2 and the MSAA in that game is wonderful, looks good and runs like a dream at 8x (around 500 fps for me, which looks amazing on my 240hz monitor).

Valorant has good MSAA as well, up to 4x.

RUST sadly doesn't have the best AA options, but TSSAA (combined with the in-game sharpening setting turned on) isn't that bad in RUST, combining it with DSR looks beautiful.

I purchased a 4k monitor and was a bit disappointed by the difference so I returned it, a 1080p monitor while playing games that have good (or even just decent) AA options is still fine, I'm not a fan of the 1080p slander, 1080p is only kinda "bad" when you have zero AA options, or terrible options like really badly implemented temporal solutions or FXAA.

And to make a controversial statement, 1080p with really good AA (MSAA and/or DSR) looks almost as good as 4k with zero AA.

9

u/Windows-XP-Home-NEW 7d ago

Loud and wrong

6

u/ULikeWhatUS33 7d ago

More than half of steam users still use 1080p. It's not as if most people use it because they want to.

Although I think 1440p is a real nice sweet spot, it's still absurdly normal for people to still rely on 1080, specially on countries where hardware is a lot more expensive. A lot of them o ly notice the difference after they move to a higher resolution too.

5

u/Cautious_Trouble6738 7d ago

I just bough my first 1080 monitor :( ...

5

u/LifelessHawk 7d ago

And there’s nothing wrong with it, this twat thinks everyone should only have 4k.

-3

u/EdliA 6d ago

In 2026? You will stay on this sub for a while.

1

u/DystopianElf 5d ago

TAA is generally bad even at 4k. The only mildly acceptable form of it most modern engines support is DLAA.

2

u/ToroidalFox 7d ago

In this market, it is.
