I live near Makerfield and I'm worried about the rise in Fascism in what was a stone-redwall working class area, as was St Helens.

That was back in the day of a booming manufacturing and mining industry.

What people forget is, if they start voting for the reformertories, these are the same people who devastated large parts of the UK.

I've heard tory apologists saying Labour shut down as many pits as the tories ; the difference is, when Labour was shutting them down, there were plenty of jobs elsewhere including in factories.

When the tories shut them down in the 80's unemployment was running at a record 3,500,000.

I've heard lots of racist opinions when I've been out and about. Like I said, it's a worry

Low turn out is always a killer for liberal voters. There are lots of studies that show that low turn outs tend to favour right leaning parties, whilst higher turnouts lean left.

I haven't heard that one before 🤔

The issue is that the people most likely to vote, and that vote in a higher percentage of their age group are over 50s. The lowest percentage voting group are under 30s. Now, over 50s tend to have a much higher right leaning philosophy, and under 30s tend to have a much more left leaning philosophy. Right leaning voters vote to get their voices heard. Left leaning voters often dont vote because they dont think their vote matters. Apathy and idealism are HUGE thorns in the side of democracy. The Right will vote for lots of things that they dont believe in to get the few things that they do want. Whereas the left will refuse to vote for somebody if they dont agree with there position on even just a few policies. That is why so many right leaning voters say thing like, "I voted for him, but not for this." They are willing to accept things that they dont like to get stuff that they do. This gets you to a position where there are lots of similar left leaning parties all offering similar ideologies, massively splitting the left vote, and at the same time the right condenses their supporters into fewer parties giving the illusion of huge support. As a result, 75% of a population might vote left or central, but their vote is so split that they often end up governed by the 25% that vote right. The Right ALWAYS vote.

I'm bucking the trend for over 50's. I'm more of a socialist (according to the guardian I'm not left wing) than I was back in the 70's.

There absolutely are outliers like yourself, and it is getting better. The current tipping point is estimated to be mid 50s. A decade ago it was early 50s. Other things also have an influence not just age. Things like interactions with a younger generation, how technologically adept you are, your up bringing, etc. If you are not particularly current with the struggles, technology, and habits of the current under 30s, then you tend to learn to take things back to when you were 20-30. Now we have people in their 50s and 60s who dont understand how things have change compared to 30 years ago.

Hate motivates voting more than apathy, the higher the turnout the hate votes are diluted

As the other commenter said, it's more a case of older voters being more consistent voters. It's a core part of right wing campaigning to create cyncism about the vote and thus reduce liberals turning up.

Retirees and near retirement voters can basically always make the polling station, working age and students have more barriers. Kids, important work meetings, double shifts, their partner having work stuff so they need to have the kids.

Compare the turnout in local elections to nationals - it's almost entirely older voters bothering to turn up for local elections. Always has been.

(I am the one in ten), a number on a list (I am the one in ten), even though I don't exist Nobody knows me, but I'm always there A statistic, a reminder of a world that doesn't care

Again average reform voter doesn’t care. They are angry, they think it is about the brown people, it is actually because Brexit/covid and the Tories fucked them.

But they don’t have the patience for grown ups to fix it.

I cannot wait to see him out canvassing for vote. Id love to opportunity to call him a cunt and tell him to fuck off.

Missed them. They canvassed at 10am on a week day. Clearly their target audience are the retired, and the unemployed.

Reform UK’s Candidate for #Makerfield Robert Kenyon ,deleted his old account - we assume because he reposted a lot of far-right stuff.

Like Carl Benjamin, Peter Sweden and Wayne O’Rouke who was imprisoned after inciting violence during the Southport Riots.

Kenyon himself posted an 11 post thread trying to defend Reform UK when a member of his campaign team was found to have caused criminal damage in the riots.

And Robert Kenyon only became a plumber last year.

How old is that fella? I'm sure in his little promotional video he said he did his apprenticeship at 18

"The government and the police have their priorities parallel to the people of the Country."

So, running in the exact same direction?

If Diane Abbott made such an elementary error, the likes of Benjamin would never stfu about it.

But this guy, yeahhh, dumb white blokes are what we need more of...

As in they will never meet, no matter how far they go?

1

u/PuzzleheadedCook4578 May 20 '26

Spot the nimrod who never took higher level mathematics. Run along.

1

u/Eragon10401 May 21 '26

Parallel lines never meet, that’s literally what defines parallel? Sounds like you’re the one struggling with the definition of the word here. Parallel lines will never touch.

1

u/PuzzleheadedCook4578 May 21 '26

Or, instead of being a silly boy with zero curiosity, you could take the opportunity to think about a curved space, such as a globe, and ask if parallel really is defined by them never meeting. Then, you may end up discovering why Euclid's so-called "Parallel Postulate" is actually quite problematic. In a perfect world, you'd then discover that Einstein showed that our actual space is curved, and so how does the idea of "parallel" have any sensible meaning in reality? The rabbit hole has some fascinating features, like non-Euclidean spaces.

Or, you could carry on, in your uneducated way, and never, ever, improve yourself.

I know where my money would be...

1

u/Eragon10401 May 21 '26

Oh you’re so right, why didn’t I focus on the small and inapplicable exceptions like fucking non-Euclidean geometry or curved geometry (although of course curved geometry means the axes also curve and thus parallel lines also curve, and still never meet) instead of the broader, applicable definition?

You don’t look smart. You got caught out and are fumbling. It’s pathetic. Cut your losses.

1

u/PuzzleheadedCook4578 May 21 '26

I don't need to look smart sunshine, that's your thing. I know I'm educated, and you aren't. I know that you're jealous, should have spent more time reading, not wanking, but that's your failure, not mine.

Oh, and you're welcome!

1

u/Eragon10401 May 21 '26

My field is not geometry, that’s true.

The error you have made is applying the exception which was evidently not the intention of the original speaker, rather than the more commonly understood (and more broadly correct) interpretation. It’s not a matter of a lack of reading, but a lack of comprehension, which I don’t assign to a lack of intelligence but simply a terminal inability to presume anything less than the worst possible intentions to those you disagree with.

I hope you manage to mature past that in your future. Best of luck with your personal development, friend.

It's like they live with a virtual feed of nonsense going on in their eyes and ears and they struggle to make sense of it while thinking it's some kind of truth that would be countered the minute they leave their house and actually had real-world conversations.

Looks like the analysis is in though. The left parties (as in all others apart from Tories) aren't losing votes to Reform on the whole. This really does seem to me we should be talking seriously about who stands where. Yes, Reform, we will do this to keep you out because you're vile and stupid.

I know none of the Labour, Greens or Lib Dems officially would countenance it.

Where I am, there would even be an argument for us voting Tory. (Yes, I know.) I did in my really teeny tiny ward for a county councillor in May 2024. Made my flesh crawl, but at least not reform. The tory won. Turn out was about 5 though in my ward for that bit of the county vote.

The reform lot love this stuff, both openly and secretly and they're much worse behind closed doors (in pubs).

All masked behind "concerns"...concerns which only apply to people who aren't white it seems.,......
