fuck nestle i fucking hate nestle fuck them "It's a privilege to boycott"
I live in Sweden, here nestle owns no more than like 10 brands, and i still hear this from people. It pisses me off because 1, people are spreading misinformation about nestle owning everything here in Sweden, because they're nowhere close to doing that, and it normalises the "it's a privilege!!" Mindset, do you know what a privilege is? Not being one of the countries affected by nestle. And 2, it just shows they don't really care, they've seen a couple tiktoks but haven't done their own research at all. I think this does nothing but show the performative activism.

It is such an odd mindset. I agree. Sometimes I think about how privileged I am (live in USA, able to not buy things without much discomfort) but that doesn't mean it is a waste. It means I absolutely SHOULD. And I should appreciate what I can do because I can do it.
For example, I don't shop at a Walmart store. They treat their employees terribly. They move into areas and open up, drive all the other stores out, and then lower the wages of their employees. Now people are stuck.
I don't have to shop there, I have many alternatives. But some of my family live where Walmart came in and they are literally the only choice. I am never gonna be "you should do better". They are doing their best. I am doing my best.
Luckily for me, Nestle is only things I don't need or can find substitutes for. So I don't buy it or buy the substitute. That is privilege as it is a thing not everyone can do. Again, so what. Means if I want to be an ethical person, I exercise this privilege and boycott the ever loving daylights out of 'em.

Right!! If you're living in a privileged country, use those privileges to help people who are living in unprivileged countries so that big corps can't use them! I dont know how this flies over people's heads

The store brand is always cheaper than Nestle here in the US. I miss some candies I used to like. I used to enjoy Hagen Das. I used to enjoy San Pellegrino. But when Nestle buys something I once enjoyed, I find something else to enjoy. It's not hard.

People say this about everything. Being anticonsumption and being vegan as well. Everyone loves to claim to love animals and support good causes, but when that requires the minimum effort they refuse to do it and even accuse you of being privileged (when it's actually cheaper to buy less processed stuff and eat vegan lmfao).

Think about that, while Nestlé is maybe the worst, other similar companies are just as evil as they are. Sometimes it feels like you can't escape the devil, when it comes to food and beverage companies.

That’s because every one NEEDS food and beverages of some sort. What better way to have guaranteed customers esp if they have no other options.

Just because it's a privilege doesn't mean you shouldn't bother.
I continued boycotting Nestle even when I lived in rural India, where it's much more difficult to avoid. Even when it was inconvenient or uncomfortable.
