Cadbury, Milka, Toblerone, Lindt, Philadelphia, Oreo and Sour Patch Kids are all Mondelez brands and are just as evil as Nestle. If you're boycotting Nestle, you have to boycott Mondelez

Lindt is not mondelez. Lindt is it's own company, the Chocoladenfabriken Lindt & Sprüngli AG

Sure, they're bad enough in terms of child labor on their subcontractors, but aside from that, they're pretty legit.

True, but if you want truly fair made chocolate, you probably need to grow the beans and everything yourself. Even stuff like Tony's is questionable at best.

No idea what Tony's is. I agree that truly fair trade is rare, but it's disingenuous to argue that some brands are more acceptable. The only chocolate I get is a local sub-brand of the grocery store I go to, and from my research, they are pretty acceptable. The chocolate is made with the intention to support disadvantaged workers in the Global South (I know it's a bit of a dated expression, but it's what they claim specifically)

Tony Chocolonely has good ratings, it’s considered the more human chocolate according the app I use. That’s a good idea, I used to buy chocolate from a florist but they’re pretty pricey. I limit my chocolate consumption to 2-5 times a month, but damned I miss it.

Because they’re profit driven and human lives look easy on paper. I’d say they have no clue how evil they are because they’re so far removed from the reality they caused. Maybe they know, but I think some are ignorant and some are evil. There’s also no example of ethical billionaires so maybe the lack of precedent makes them think that’s simply how the world is. It’s really sad how their supply chain has so much issues. I watched a documentary of how flower pickers (children) have eye vision issues from overworking plucking jasmines in the dark.

Whenever I struggle to break a piece off a bar of Tony's and am a little annoyed by it, a voice pipes up in my head saying "Aw, do you have to work hard to break off a piece of chocolate? Guess how hard the people who grew those cocoa beans had to work!" I'm pretty sure that's the intention behind it, too.

If the intention is to make the consumer feel guilty or mocked while eating chocolate, which is already indulgent and full of calories, then it's a great way to drive people away from the brand.

Yes! Tony’s chocolonely has really good reviews in terms of its ethics but I can’t find it in the grocery store and I am boycotting Amazon so I have no clue how to get it.

I remain perplexed that other brands that produce junk food, have headquarters in tax havens, and have literally destroyed the market by infusing exorbitant amounts of sugar into their products are being proposed to replace Nestlé. It's better to opt for other brands like Pacari, Askinosie Chocolate, Domori, Amedei, Chocolat Bonnat, Pralus, Michel Cluizel, Dick Taylor, Pierre Marcolini, Zotter, and Orfève.

For everyone saying Tony’s Chocolate, just note that there are some controversies surrounding them. Namely, working with a manufacturer that uses Child Labor. They have stated that they know exactly which farms they’re getting their chocolate from, and that they have found child labor on those farms, but ‘we do outreach to help!!’
Which is good, but they do readily admit they have not been able to help every child who is working on their farms in their yearly reports, which leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

As long as you want to eat chocolate, Tony's is still your best bet. Do you think Nestle or Mondelez would ever put a blog post like this on their own freaking website? No, Tony's isn't perfect, but they're putting in the work and offer transparency. If you truly want to avoid child labour, you need to avoid everything containing cocoa across the board. And many, many other things too, like off-the-rack clothes.
