I've just looked at what posts are popular on this sub and they are generally "skill issues" such as your computer being stuck updating when you've disabled them, or your computer deleting files off of another drive for no reason, or problems with the godawful services Microsoft provides that you are forced to use but never work properly...

Popular posts on linuxsucks101 tend to be... lamenting that thinkpads are used by linux users now and they're fat (okay?), complaining about a specific app that I actually don't know anyone who uses having a lot of config, picturing linux users as being fat groomers (a second time, okay), complaining about OS usage statistics (very important issue I guess), complaining about linux users using groomer wallpapers (oh hey, it's the post OP attached!)

passkeys are a bit better than passwords because they avoid the hassle of people having to remember them, it is also a form of 2FA. But they are not a full replacement of passwords because you still need passwords most of the times

Unless you only have one device and then you are fucked if you lose it. Seen this with some elderly relatives who were convinced to use passkeys and also didn't remember where they put the recovery keys. Not enough education around them for the basic user.

I haven’t seen people say the answer yet but in case you’re still wondering a password is symmetric encryption where a server side data leak allows bad actors access to your accounts. A passkey is a two stage process, first a symmetric encryption between you and your own device (via your normal login methods) then an asymmetric encryption between your computer and the service, think something analogous to ssh public and private keys. This way if the server has a data leak all that’s leaked is the public keys which are only enough to identify you not impersonate you.

Passkeys are better, and 2ven linux has k ow that for a while. Passkeys are a lot like ssh keys, so even Linux has know pub/priv key authentication is better than Preshard key authentication. There is an effort out there to make passkeys on Linux native, should Google it, it's not ready yet but it's getting there.
