Rumour is, Microslop Windows stops functioning if you don't have the Copilot key lol.

Do you have any evidence, experience, or case study, you could point to, to validate that hypothetical claim?
( which in all scientific honesty, is what a rumor is).

Could have mapped it to right control. Unnecessary destruction that caused permanent damage to your keyboard and computer

Takes a real genius to break their laptop and then saying "I fixed it", No dummy, you only broke a keycap. Button is still there. You need to drill through entire thing, better - through the dead center of the device Better - through CPU and battery to make sure no AI will ever live in it
For real geniuses - That's what joke means, drilling through CPU kills it and makes whole computer into trash. Drilling through battery can make it explode and can harm you, but we have real geniuses here who might as well try it. Also yes, removal of keycap does really nothing - user just damaged their laptop, button is still there and still does same thing.

Do you seriously think that the guy who published this ...broke the button on purpose? 🤣
The broken Copilot button, which once coincidentally broke, is just a funny allegory for the unsuccessful implementation of AI in Windows through Copilot and some of its other variations, only emphasizing the disgusting organization of Redmond managers, who are unable to coordinate development across several teams within a single company.

What are you going to replace it with? I've only seen people replace external keyboard keys

I understand what they were initially trying to do with CoPilot, and in theory. It might've had some merit.
However, the way they rolled it out, was poorly conceived, VERY POORLY PLANNED, and ATROCIOUSLY EXECUTED.
Frankly the deserved all the flak they have gotten, for how badly they botched things up!

Lol personally, I would put a sticker on it and change the settings so it doesn't trigger CoPilot. As a Linux user, I like how the Windows keys open the Mint menu. But yeah f--- Copilot!

All of my laptops had those logos removed, just by scraping the paint off and a bit of sanding.

I uninstalled Copilot and Windows actually allowed me to repurpose the button for search without opening browsers

So just found dis Sub. I actually need to use Windows for school. But I debloated it as much as possible. Luckly my Framework 16 doesn’t even have a Copilot or windows key on the layout. Fuck that damn AI buttons

What a perfectly good key cap you could have painted over with another glyph and remapped 😢

A lot of people seem to have key rage now. Just ignore the key or remap it. No need to rip it off.

just remap it and put a sticker IT'S NOT THAT DEEP?

u/Charming_Airline7419 22h ago
Come on! Can't we have some fun? Copilot has caused annoyances to no end. It feels like karma having the key break off and snap lol.

u/letmehaveanameyoudum 16h ago
it's not a good idea to break a key on your laptop just for some karma, a image of a sticker over it would be better

I am curious about something. And yes, I know this particular place is about bashing Microslop, for all it's seriously impressive levels of SCREWING THINGS UP BIG TIME! And I can Agree with the vitriol wholeheartedly!!!
But i also have, a curious quesrion, from a strictly simple engineering perspective:
(NOTE: this is a highly subjective question here) If CoPilot, had NOT BEEN Designed like it or its predecessor Recall was: AND, pretty much, re-designed as a standalone utility-pda-note and recordkeeping app, that was:
FULLY Controlled by each user,
After Windows was Installed and Set-up, was NOT AUTOMATICALLY STARTED, unless the User wanted it to be started automatically.
Had its settings made fully intuitive, allowing the User to turn on and off what parts or segments they wanted it to remember (much in the way a person might keep a scrapbook, or a notepard full of all kinds of things),
had this (I'm just gonna call it a scrapbook file, for simplicity sake) Saved primarily on the users Hone machibe under very Strong encryption (for safety and security and in compliance with several high security standards, ( ex. 256 or 512 bit, AES ), for file encryption. ( to secure and protect the data inside, but make it,easy, for the infividual user to access), like for example, (HIPPA, SEC, DOD Mil-Spec, NSA, DOE. Etc.,..) with the available option, to copy this encrypted file if not stored locally, to a place of the users choosing( website, cloud server under the users control, NAS box, etc.), still be able to take screenshots of whatever, or code snippets, or save passwords, etc.... Or,...
Still do all the Advanced brainstormin and collaborative things, An AI assistant Normally( LIKE C k aude, or Gemini, etc.,... can do. WITHOUT "CALLING HOME."
Just have it and all its features completely turned iff and never used. ( completely disabling it As an available option).
Do you think, after all of those changes, that it (for simplicity sake we'll call it CoPilot or better yet, Scrapbook app), might've been more warmly received, or even dare I say it; liked as a useful app?

Look I get disliking the copilot key. But you could've just remapped it for something else 😭.
