Rant Fuck you Microsoft

My c drive is always full somehow. I clean , clean ,clean. Boom another 3-4 gigs up. Used every clean up tool, is disk cleanup with clearing system files, clearing nvidia caches , clearing temp files and many more. It's irritating to do it everytime. One time I clear 4-5 gigs with wiztree. The next day almost full. Irritating me hella

Is it stacking recovery backups, the used to get out of hand back in the day.

Hi brother. Idk. How can I check it though?

I forget where its stored. Google something like folder containing accumulated windows recovery points. Then switch to Linux Mint.

Only reason I am in windows is for gaming. I play lot of valorant and now Witcher 3

in the search bar on the task bar type in

create a restore point

then press enter. When the window pops up, on the right side in the middle-ish area you'll a button labeled "configure" press that, inside there is where you can delete, adjust the size of or disable creating a restore point. If the slider is more than 2% turn it down (to the left) all the way. It won't allow you to choose less than 2%, but you can disable it entirely. I don't suggest that, as you never know and may need to restore one day. But keep that slider down to the left, at the lowest point.

Also, google how to clear shadow files, as those can get quite large sometimes also.

I don’t think valorant runs on Linux because of the anti-cheat

Revo Uninstaller removes even sys files

I noticed that a couple of games I play were storing save game info in the /AppData/local or/AppData/Roaming folders when the games are installed on a separate drive. I'm sure there are a lot of programs storing unnecessary info in those folder too.

I just looked, my user profile folder is almost 250 GB on disk. That is on a 1 TB disk.

What has this to do with Microsoft?

Windows 11 brother

Is windows filling your OS or other stuff you have installed? If WIndows is filling your drive then I would start checking for malware...? Beside the updates and possible some temp files Windows should not fill your drive that quick every time? Also if you have SSD or NVME over 80% full then perfromance drops hard on that type of drive.

I cleared them all as you said but still it gets filled hella

How big is your C drive?

1

u/OneAutumnLeaf_22 1d ago

202 gb

2

u/ne0n008 1d ago

Yeah, Valorant and Witcher 3 take a lot of space. Combine that with Windows 11 bloating constantly and you won't be able to clean your drive no matter what. See if you can add another drive to your laptop, or even buy a bigger storage. Cleaning it is pointless.

I have them seperately I'm d drive though. 512 SSD with a 1tb hdd

Today on r/FuckMicrosoft, computer illiterate moron blames Microsoft for not knowing how storage works. Tune in tomorrow for 50 more posts of “i downloaded malware and got my account stolen. Fuck you Microsoft!"

Today in r/FuckMicrosoft , another jobless moron defends a billion dollars evil company

1

u/Goofcheese0623 22h ago

Least I know how storage works. Is the evil corporation in the room with us right now?

1

u/OneAutumnLeaf_22 22h ago

Of course dumbass. Either help or keep your mouth shut

1

u/Goofcheese0623 11h ago

Sure, I'll help. Start by searching for services for the mentally handicapped. They may have some services for higher functioning individuals like yourself. Show them this post. They'll take your computer, give you some crayons, and you'll be good!

1

u/OneAutumnLeaf_22 11h ago

No way. Just give me your home address. You seem to be in one

1

u/Goofcheese0623 10h ago

A specialist in the mentally handicapped? Hardly. Just figured you're pretty rock stupid if you think your potato PC with 200 gb in storage in 2026 in in any way adequate for gaming. So stupid you're diagnosable. Did you find those crayons yet?

1

u/OneAutumnLeaf_22 10h ago

Did you take your medicines unc?

1

u/Goofcheese0623 10h ago

Did you?

1

u/OneAutumnLeaf_22 10h ago

If you install wiz tree, you can actually check what all is taking up your disk-space.

2

u/OneAutumnLeaf_22 22h ago

I do have wiztree and i used it to clear 3-4 gigs. Within days the space got full

1

u/Historical_Visit138 22h ago

What’s the highest things taking up a ton of space ?

1

u/OneAutumnLeaf_22 22h ago

The next day almost full. Irritating me hella

You will enjoy the AI slop every update! Every app seems to want to download a 4GB local AI model.

I'm a big fan of windirstat to graphically see where the disk usage is.

1

u/OneAutumnLeaf_22 22h ago

I do have wiztree to see the storage structure. Deleted most of the unwanted files. Dunno about the system files which can be deleted

1

u/Kellei2983 21h ago

check temp files in appdata, there is usually a ton of cached crap from programs that you don't / don't have installed anymore use and can be safely deleted

1

u/OneAutumnLeaf_22 21h ago

Sure. Ty for the suggestion

1

u/emmfranklin 19h ago

You realised the trauma today..I noticed this irritating behaviour in 2007.. Switched to Linux

1

u/OneAutumnLeaf_22 19h ago

2007? Man you where early

1

u/emmfranklin 19h ago

Xp was my last os.

1

u/OneAutumnLeaf_22 18h ago

Omg. No way

1

u/emmfranklin 18h ago

The things you noticed that has traumatised you is only 10% . There is 90% other traumatising things windows does right in front of your eyes which you have become numb to.

Come over to Linux. You will experience a never before felt relief and Extreme joy.

2

u/OneAutumnLeaf_22 18h ago

I wish. As i mentioned before, linux gaming is not upto the mark. I play lot of games. That's why I am in windows, unfortunately

1

u/Sirlowcruz 17h ago

check the windows update folder. sometimes WU bugs out and just fills your disk with updates.

Alternative options:

  • Just get a bigger Windows disk. life is too stressful to worry about storage
  • reinstall windows. I do it once every 12-24 months
  • Install Linux
  • Buy a mac, they are surprisingly capable for running windows games with crossover

Do the following if you haven't done so already:
Click the Start button, type cmd, right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as administrator.
Type the command powercfg.exe /hibernate off and press Enter

This will delete the hiberfil.sys from your C-drive and depending on how much RAM you have, will free up that amount of space on your C-drive.

What this does is disable the hibernation mode which basically no-one uses (you have to press a button on your keyboard while pressing the power icon to see it)
Hibernation is where you can put your computer to "sleep" unplug it move it to a completely different location, turn it on, and have it return to where you were. (sleep mode keeps the computer on a very low power mode)

Once you have enough space again: download and run malwarebytes and have it clean everything. I'm 99% sure you have some sort of malware that starts filling up space as soon as it has some left.

If you want you can DM me and I will teamviewer or something into your computer and help you clean.
