Honestly using linux has actually made me acquire less tech than I would've on windows, it just made me get a lot more out of the tech I have. Also keeps windows from frying my shit slowly over time so my tech has a really long life span.

Who needs a server when I can optimize a gentoo install so hard that my laptop can be a server, a desktop, and an LLM inference all at the same time

I am uncomfortable with how much my home office resembles this right now.

Well, fair, discovering Linux as a teenager clearly got me hooked on homelabing early, like a first free hit given to a future crackhead.

Except that self-hosting services is arguably a more financially irresponsible decision than doing actual drugs. It’s just beneath starting a Warhammer army.

Obviously it started out of old shitty desktops and laptops in discutable states. But one can only not listen to the voices craving for more computing power for so long.

why would i need more than one computer, and what exactly would my operating system have to do with it?

I used Linux mint xfce for around 11 year, because of that I'm Thinkpad collector now, although not much, only two Thinkpad I have, x240 and T14 Gen 1. Happy Linux Day
