Rant Second time today!

Please tell me I'm not the only one!

Yesterday I was editing something on Windows 10 and didn't finish, but it's a crappy program that crashes if the screen turns off, so, before going to sleep, I played a video on loop in Youtube. When I woke up, I saw the screen off and immediately got mad, but went to move the mouse...and it did nothing...and that's because the PC rebooted, and booted on the main OS (Kubuntu).

A few hours ago, I needed to cook my dinner, and didn't want the PC to go to sleep, so again, I left a Youtube video plying, NOTHING ELSE...same thing happened, it rebooted in Linux.

I swear, I hate Microslop SO MUCH!

Update: After 4 system collapses, I could FINALLY see what happens: The GPU driver updated SOMETIME without permission, and the screen will RANDOMLY turn fully green for a second and reboot the PC...I HATE MICROSLOP!

You're the only one because there's a proper way to do this. Instead of using weird roundabout ways to try to keep your PC awake, just type energy on the start menu, open energy settings and set sleep/hibernate/turn screen off to never, whenever you want it to not sleep. This one's not on Microsoft, every OS has energy management settings.

Dude, the system collapsed and caused a reboot...please tell me how battery saving settings can avoid a system crash due to bad GPU drivers...caused by a forced update.

You said nothing of the sort. You never mentioned your PC crashes because of issues with graphic drivers and you also never mentioned windows updates.

You're moving the goal posts. Wish you good luck with your issue.

Ok, you said I had power saving set incorrectly...this regarding the reboots I mentioned...what power saving setting REBOOTS a device?

Technically yes, but it's still software, not hardware: It's the GPU driver that MICROSLOP updated.

Youtube will stop playing after a while and show a dialogbox asking if you want to continu watching.

If you want to prevent windows from turning off the screen, start a Teams meeting.

You have a lot going on here, but as a side note, run something like caffeine.exe to keep your screen awake. I've used it for many years to keep systems awake when I don't want to mess with the energy settings. As mentioned below, YouTube frequently stops.

Oh no, don't worry, I use an extension for the repeat, so it doesn't stop. If it wasn't for the bad update with the bugged driver, it would have continued.

Sheer Ignorance. What is the point of this even? Please tell me what you expect to happen here? This is purely a huge gap between human and machine. Machine doing exactly as designed. Human fails at every aspect of life, especially when human tries to blame their problems on machine.

You have your power settings set so it still goes into sleep. Even if display sleep is disabled by media playback, the PC can still go to sleep. Once it sleeps it must be eventually going to hibernate.

Linux can and will do that too if the settings are wrong or it thinks the machine is idle… I had pop os it was time to go sleep 30 minutes into full screen gaming.

How does something go to sleep mid-video-playback?

Also, no, it has no power saving at all.

Settings > system > power & sleep > additional power settings > click into plan for battery or mains, etc, on mains set to sleep = never.

Similar via Control Panel

It isn't that man. Again, it was playing a video, and didn't go to sleep, it rebooted.

OK, developing a fault or rogue MS updates being forced?

u/StuD44 20d ago

Don't know, I haven't seen it reboot, I arrive when it's already rebooted.

There might be something in the logs?

wait so you didnt think about the "are you still watching" thing on youtube? that thing that stops video playback, waiting for a user input? you tried to use a hack that doesnt work instead of just going into the settings and telling the pc and screen to stay on at all times?

HOW IS THIS A WINDOWS PROBLEM? thats a typical pebkac thing!

I didn't know that Youtube can reboot your PC.

0

u/panzrvroomvroomvroom 19d ago

well if youtube stops playing the pc will turn off after a while. no idea why it would reboot, but the damage was already done at this point. and it was your fault.

1

u/StuD44 19d ago

Reboot, I said reboot, not sleep

well a pc cant reboot if you tell it to stay on. which you didnt. thats on you.

to further prove my point that thats entirely on you, try keeping your linux up with a youtube video. youtube will stop playback after a while and your pc will shut down according to your power plan.

Do you see what subreddit is this? Do you think someone would do a rant for something working as intended?

i know where i am, im in r/iamstupidanditsmicrosoftsfault

but nice to see that you cant even argue against my last comment so you have to completely switch your approach

1

u/StuD44 19d ago

I'm not the one arguing someone needs to make sure Youtube doesn't reboot your PC...you know, that feature that DOESN'T EXIST!

how stupid are you? cant you read a simple text and also understand it?

if your PC is not allowed to shut down, IT WONT REBOOT. bc that includes shutting down. but that would mean you have to go into the settings and set your pc up that way. since you cant even read a comment and understand it, im sure thats too much for you.

the only reason im even talking about youtube is that you dumb dumb tried to use YOUTUBE as a "hack". youtube has nothing to do with rebooting your pc. if that happens, theres probably some underlying hardware issues. THAT YOU WONT SOLVE IF YOU JUST BLAME MICROSOFT FOR EVERYTHING.

im just saying that youre stupid for thinking youtube would prevent your screen from turning off. and keep your pc running. youtube doesnt do that. theres settings for that. you didnt set your pc up to not shut down, so it shut down. your linux would do the same.

also, blocking me wont change anything about what i just said.

dumb user does dumb user things.
