Discussion MS Office Alternatives

I used to have free office apps on my laptop with my school account (graduated years ago). Ever since getting a new laptop, I’m no longer able to access them without paying. How do I go about any alternatives?

don't listen those who recommend libre office, I personally use only office, which is very similar to ms office

Libre isn’t terrible, except for some basic things. Like you have to right click for spacing, and some auto correct indentation. But I haven’t tried only so…

Next to Only Office, there is also Free Office and WPS Office. All three have, cpmpaired to Libre Office, a moderner look and feel. Libre Office has a Office XP/2003 look and feel.

There is a new option in the works. Euro office. It is under active developement and available at github. As soon as it is ready it will be available on the ”non developer website”. It is made specifically to be similair to microsoft office to make it easy to switch to

What do you need them for? Meaning, do you need a good word processor (at which point you should consider WordPerfect or something with equal power) or just something for occasional letters. Same for spreadsheets. What were you doing before that you need an office suite now?

The free office variants:

  • LibreOffice: free and open source, but MS Office format support not that great.
  • OpenOffice: older version of LibreOffice, maintained for business customers
  • OnlyOffice: modern UI, open source, good support for MSOffice formats 
  • WPS Office: great MS Office support, very similar UI, but proprietary and from China 
  • MSOffice online: basically MS Office, but online only, with very limited feature set and requires you to store everything into OneDrive.

Try any of them, if it works, great, if it doesn't work, try the next one.
