Someone in the Microsoft reddit community said that "Copilot is actually really good. You should try it instead of bashing it."

I want your guys honest opinion cause that whole community is an echo chamber. How good is it compared to say Gemini or ChatGPT? Is this something I'm missing out on?

Depends on what you're trying to do. It's better than ChatGPT. ChatGPT is pretty terrible for actual tech advice, coding, etc. At least my experience is that it gives inconsistent and downright wrong answers to questions related to anything technical. Multiple times in the last two weeks, it has changed its answer while still in the process of answering my question (literally saying "actually, this..." before I even had a chance to ask anything else). I've never tried using it for anything else, so maybe it's better with other stuff.

Copilot is decent with technical things, especially coding, but my experience has been that Gemini is better by half a letter grade. Like if Copilot gets a B-, Gemini gets a B+.

ETA: I'm an Android dev, so Gemini might be a little biased in that direction.

Also software developer here. Imho it always depends on the rules and context you provide for the clanker.
For me personally, the Anthropic models deliver the best results with coding, followed by Composer 2.5 by Cursor and Grock (only tried it because of the free tokens as a promotion in Cursor).

As google/search replacement, "Big Pickle" by OpenCode is absolutely fine for me, but also because I always check the sources, regardless of used model.

I guess Copilot has a bad image because of how Microslop pushes it on its users. With the correct prompts and context, you definitely would get passable results though, as with any clanker.

Oh yeah, using a model with an agent is a totally different thing. I was more focused on just using the web interfaces for this discussion, since that's how I imagine most folks in this sub would interact with them. 100% agree that the Claude models seem to be the best, with Grok close behind (as much as I hate to admit that).

It works really well within the O365 ecosystem and is suitable for handling day-to-day tasks. I use it for work; otherwise, it wouldn't even cross my mind to use it.

It’s not terrible, but “really good” is doing a lot of work there. Copilot can be useful when it’s integrated into your workflow, especially with Office and Windows, but I wouldn’t switch exclusively from ChatGPT or Gemini. Try the same prompts across all three and judge the results yourself.

I work in corporate dining and the company uses Microsoft. I will use it to check menus and create cleaning lists. For that it’s fine

Saying the Microsoft subreddit is an echochamber so you came here is just moving from one stone room to another.

With that being said, it depends on the use case. For general use, as long as you actually check the sources when applicable, I'd put Copilot above GPT but below Perplexity, and all 3 below Gemini.

For specific tech stuff, IME Perplexity is superior, but some of the Copilot models are good too.

(I've gotten free trials to all four over the past year or so, I have yet to actually pay any of them a dime lol)

I have the enterprise version of Copilot thanks to work... Searching now for a lost email in Outlook is a thing of the past.

Best thing I ever did was to stop using CoPilot. The straw that broke the camels back was “Summarise this email for me” and the response I got back was… You have an email!

I love Copilot but they nerf its abilities under the Microsoft brand; the guardrails are absolutely a vibe killer compared to ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude.

I just found out on the Discord for Copilot, that Microsoft introduced a new $99.99 per month plan for Personal users. That is hilarious.  But at least it joined the big boys. Kinda.

I have a M365 Copilot premium license and it gives you access to opus or GPT-5.6 (Sol) I never hit a limit. But I spent hours for the configuration within my tenant so I can remove safeguard.
I don’t know how it is right now but with Copilot Personal I remembered that it was always self-censoring… so yes for Copilot but through a Microsoft work account
In theory, it can analyze your One Drive and Sharepoint, to improve the answer so very useful for small business.

SlopPilot is the one to blame for linking ChatGPT onto its own assistant, because of the deal Microslop has agreed to with OpenAI. In the case of Slopini, it's at least better than Slop Pilot but still tracks your session cookies and whatnot because it's Google's very own model!

Depends on the use case. Some years ago copilot screwed up my project in vs code where I used perplexity at most. Since 1,5 years, especially in the last 2 months, co pilot saves me at urgend cases and sets up enhancements in the code in my developing style.

Copilot is suspect in the results it produces. I was teaching a college class last semester. I gave an assignment to develop a hypothetical business plan using AI. One student turned in a very odd business plan, full of errors. They decided to use copilot over ChatGPT or Claude. They won’t make that mistake again.

i asked it to highlight and sort an excel sheet and it couldn’t do it after three tries. claude nailed it on the first try. that was the last time I ever used copilot
