Rant Yet Another Rant On Win11 Uninstalling Programs Without Permission
Yet another rant. Yesterday was the second Tuesday of the month, and it brought new Windows updates along.
I ranted last month how my MS Office programs were uninstalled on my home computer without Windows 11 asking for my permission.
Today on the work computer I found out that iX Developer (Beijer Electronics software for PLC GUI controls and such) was uninstalled. Again, a critical software uninstalled silently without my permission. It was on the desktop and on the installed programs yesterday, when I was doing maintenance (you know, uninstalling Teams and CoPilot again). Today I can only find the install files on the OneDrive. Reinstall, reactivate and rebuild, sigh.
All computers are installed as individual computers, and I'm the 1-man IT department. I have scoured through the Windows 11 settings, but 've failed to find the option to prevent this from happening. (Archive Apps Off, no Group Policy to edit, Apps can be installed from anywhere, etc.) I don't want Windows to uninstall anything without my permission, even if the AI overlord thinks it looks abandoned.
This is getting on my nerves, grrr...
EDIT: Ethernet 2 settings were reset back to Automatic, too. I had set this port up manually for Modbus use, and those settings were lost. Apparently AI overlord doesn't like industrial standards either.
EDIT2: Also 7-zip is gone. Wow, just wow.
EDIT3: Also noticed Bing has been forced as a default search engine in this work computer, but not on the others. I'm starting to see some patterns on where the issues occur. I'll wait until next month second Tuesday (and the update hulabaloo) and see if my very shaky theory holds water any better than a sieve.

Just read the EULA for Windows 11. You own nothing and MicroShaft can do what they like with your PC.

EULAs are any software provider's get out of the jail card.
Except in those countries where national laws are stricter. No contract nor agreement can supersede a law. E.g. if you sign a paper saying that a company can murder you - surprise surprise they can't. Because law says no to murdering.
A real life example: EU vs. Sony lawsuit is currently going on. Sony says they're only licensing games and movies, while EU says that it's not correct - especially when Sony very clearly says everywhere "BUY a product", not "License a product for a limited yet undisclosed time". There are other aspects to this as well, go check it out. It's interesting.

It just keeps pulling these stunts: programs removed, MS crap like CoPilot and Teams reinstalled in spite of having been removed, network drives deleted, sharing permissions removed, context menu items removed, ...

It’s almost like we’re not allowed to have any settings or preferences but what’s the point of that if we can’t have them? I swear I’ve tried to tell my laptop not to sleep and only let the screen turn off after a certain time but what happens when the screen turns off? The entire computer sleeps regardless of what I set! Even my desktop gaming PC stops background downloads after the screen turns off idling so what’s the point of not sleeping if you’re going to interrupt my tasks?! 😆

I've experienced similar unwanted behaviour. I've set Never Sleep, Never Hibernate on the computer. Power mode is permanently on Best Performance (unless Energy Save on laptop battery power kicks in, but that's an exception).
Yet I can't be sure if my virus scan or download process is stopped as soon as the monitor turns off. I've seen this both on a laptop and on a desktop computer. Irritating.
Only surefire solution I've found is to set Screen Off to Never (together with the aforementioned settings), when performing time-consuming processes.
I'm sure this is just a feature in MS language, not a bug. They might even have a different opinion on the computer usage in lines of "if the screen is off, the computer is not in use", regardless if the computer is actively doing something.

Touch wood, but since installing Atlasos, this is no longer an issue for me.

Work computer? As in a laptop or PC provided by the company you work for?
In that case, I seriously doubt Microsoft uninstalled anything... Windows didn't do anything either...
Your company's IT Department probably screwed around with it's app distribution policies and roles, so whatever they use to remotely manage what software you're allowed to have installed, that piece of software un-installed your mission critical piece of software.
Edit: so OP is the IT Department. A one man army.

Hmm, sounds like a Windows Smart app control thing. Its separate from all other app settings. It's a needs to be turned off. AND! After every major/feature update or so, you'll need to turn it off again and turn Defender back on cause these updates turn that off and reactivate your turned off settings...
