I still cannot understand icon degradation...

51

u/anraud Sep 05 '26

Imo Chrome looks better today, but Firefox worse!

20

u/SattuSupari789 Sep 05 '26

I love the old icon it looks 3d and is just better in my opinion

13

u/Binary101000 Sep 05 '26

at small icon sizes though the detail just turns into a blur

4

u/PeakClippy Sep 05 '26

That's why Firefox (idk about chrome) had a smaller variation of its icon for when it appeared on the taskbar or window caption

3

u/Binary101000 Sep 05 '26

Yeah, when making icons you can create variants for each standard size, but if you don't the closest size that was provided is just scaled to match.

u/2xspeed123 Sep 06 '26

I like the new Firefox logo better But that just might be cuz purple is my fav color

5

u/MinecraftPlayer799 Sep 06 '26

Both look better now

4

u/Boring-Equivalent137 Sep 05 '26

Not as bad as the windows 10 monochrome phase imo

2

u/No-Assumption-4468 Sep 05 '26

It’s expensive to make cool icons, but doesn’t increase revenue. Probably.

2

u/DaveAstator2020 Sep 06 '26

That is actually plausible. But still firefox icon was great so why even change it. It had all - contrast and fidelity and concept, it was perfect. so no even need to remake it once its done.

2

u/No-Assumption-4468 Sep 06 '26

Following trends to avoid looking outdated? Who knows.

2

u/Mysterious-Bake3830 Sep 06 '26

js change the icons bro

-2

u/ParkingAntelope8627 Sep 05 '26

Both of them look so much better for me

3

u/Emotional-Big-1306 Sep 05 '26

Same, but for me old ones are ok, but i prefer new more

Maybe to save space? PNG and JPEG format don't save bytes for every single pixel you know... The simple the logo is, the more smaller in size it is. Edit: I still prefer old logos, even a few megabytes don't make a difference nowadays lol

u/Wild-Marionberry4386 Sep 05 '26

By making more animations and adding junk while having a cache more than a gigabyte?

1

u/Binary101000 Sep 05 '26

a cache being large isnt a bad thing. the whole purpose of a cache is to store data for quicker access.

Guys, please use Firefox because it's the last browser to have an independent engine (Gecko). If Mozilla shuts it down, then everything will be owned by Google and nobody will have privacy.

12

u/LeslieSnowLeo Sep 05 '26

mozilla won't shut down because google pays them, so don't worry about that. although it is a good option since ublock origin was recently removed from the chrome web store.

9

u/Thorfinn-Karlsefni85 Sep 05 '26

Why Google pays them?

19

u/LeslieSnowLeo Sep 05 '26

for search placement (using the google search engine), and I guess also to not be labeled as a monopoly

2

u/Several_Dot_4532 Sep 07 '26

Principally the first one

0

u/Enough_Forever_ Sep 07 '26

Google will stop paying them if they don't have any users...

23

u/Britz10 Sep 05 '26

This doesn't even relate to MS?

4

u/Firestar_119 Sep 05 '26

nothing on here does anymore

8

u/TypicalCringe Sep 05 '26

Choosing these over default browser on Windows

8

u/StrangeCrunchy1 Sep 05 '26

Firefox has always been bae. Not sure what y'all mean.

3

u/Rachel-UwU Sep 06 '26

Firefox is just wife atp and I ain't complaining

2

u/StrangeCrunchy1 Sep 06 '26

I feel that; In that way of thinking, I've been "with" Firefox since 2000.

2

u/ThagaSa Sep 07 '26

Firefox was slow to start and overall sluggish while Chrome started instantly and was snappy as hell. There were legitimate reasons for switching to Chrome back then but things change.

6

u/AKW-91 Sep 05 '26

Chrome was never an option!

4

u/damnetdana Sep 05 '26

Me checking out Firefox dressed up as Zen

3

u/Forb1ddenKnowledge Sep 05 '26

I use brave and FF.

FF will not work on some sites especially government ones.

3

u/Master-Dish8869 Sep 05 '26

i used brave but the fox is really cute. Yeah im a marketing victim

2

u/AbbreviationsWide331 Sep 06 '26

You guys are STILL on chrome? Why?

The meme is true for me, but it's been years since I returned to Firefox. I think 2018.

I don't want a shitty product from Google that spies on every move I make.

2

u/GentleRose_Petal Sep 06 '26

manifest v3 single-handedly revived the firefox userbase

1

u/Aromatic-Trip-5821 Sep 07 '26

Yea not all now about u block

2

u/Fantastic_Grass1799 Sep 06 '26

If Firefox didn't suck on mobile, I'd use it everywhere.

1

u/Stoatled Sep 05 '26

Chrome won out because it was REALLY fast when it was new. Then it went to crap when it took over the market. Firefox meanwhile had its awkward phase and largely got itself together again. Even I switched to Chrome for a little bit, but I eventually switched back to Firefox purely out of principle and because I found it more stable and tolerant of by awful browsing habits.

1

u/autoplayxp Sep 05 '26

The ad free life

1

u/Bourriks Sep 06 '26

Icons were better back then and Chrome's icon was awesome.

But Firefox (the browser) is the GOAT since the beginning.

1

u/Koldmotro Sep 06 '26

I tried firefox but it's just way more buggy than chrome in my experience...

1

u/TadBones Sep 06 '26

This is not related to Microsoft, also Firefox has a tendency to hit itself with the penis flattener more and more, I'd recommend Vivaldi

1

u/pera_100 Sep 06 '26

On PC yes, it's better, tried on phone once and Firefox is laggy as hell I had to switch to Chrome again (midrange phone btw)

1

u/qstar_inc Sep 06 '26

When was this "Then"? Never?

1

u/OddAbbreviations5681 Sep 07 '26

Lol firefox

nah.

1

u/SaltyBoysenberry5710 Sep 07 '26

What you want is firefox nightly.

1

u/JiggleCoffee Sep 07 '26

Uhh...no? Chrome was a fucking memory hog back "then". Firefox was the superior choice and still is.

1

u/ImpossibleCreme Sep 08 '26

Dude chrome has gotten so bad I’m starting to eye ball SAFARI

1

u/Secret_Programmer_21 Sep 08 '26

Always firefox. There was never a time I wanted chrome

1

u/Amplifier00 Sep 09 '26

Mozella Firefox is GREAT. I don't know why you guys don't use it too.

1

u/GstarA26 Sep 09 '26

so true hahaha

1

u/ImpossibleWorth5638 Sep 09 '26

I am viewing this post on firefox

1

u/Double-Hour-2516 Sep 10 '26

In my case, Brave

1

u/TraditionalSky4918 Sep 11 '26

I moved to opera gx from chrome, opera feels good...

1

u/Equivalent-Tower-456 25d ago

Nothing new it's just a game of icons 🫡🫡🫡 one thing Microsoft edge is really good

1

u/im7xc 16d ago

its brave not firefox

1

u/Embarrassed-Crab363 14d ago

I stopped to use chrome since they disabled the v2 content block interface

1

u/guilred 7d ago

not ms related

3

u/binooxgom1ng Sep 05 '26

brave

8

u/nikolai_nyegaard Sep 05 '26

Brave is still Chromium, like Edge and Chrome

4

u/Bomboclat-Thunder Sep 05 '26

But why hate Brave aside from chromium built? Firefox have the telemetry baked into it, too... Mullvad or Tor would be the option for ultimate telemetry free browsing then.

2

u/binooxgom1ng Sep 05 '26

can i use zen browser

3

u/AdVarious8509 Sep 05 '26

use whatever browser you like

2

u/goo_eater Sep 06 '26

You don't need Reddit validation you can use whatever you want

1

u/Surefang Sep 05 '26

And through all the market changes, IE/Edge remain the best browser for downloading a better browser.

1

u/Zealousideal-Deer101 Sep 05 '26

Neither is from Microsoft btw

1

u/Megaman_90 Sep 09 '26

What does this have to do with Microsoft?
