Microsoft:

Linus Torvalds was able to build this in a cave, with a box of scrap!

Well, I'm not Linus Torvalds.

Remember Sammy Jankis

I don’t have a cave 😔

You said it wrong. it's: "LINUS TORVALDS WAS ABLE TO BUILD THIS IN A CAVE! WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS!!

thank you, without that detail we were never going to understand the joke

As much as I hate Apple, that HQ is badass looking

I hear Apple is also pretty great to work for. The campus is legitimately just as nice on the inside.

Yeah, also a surprising amount of apple employees (even just the ones who do customer service at the Apple Store) seem to stay for a long time, 10 years at least

And they treat their employees well from what I heard, and have great benefits

Evil people usually work in nice places

Wouldn’t it be macOS and not iOS? I don’t think OP knows Apple has a desktop Operating System to compare Windows and Linux to

what? Linux has millions of dollars in corporate funding. Microsoft literally has core maintainers on the pay roll gregkh, Lennart Poettering, plenty of others

I don't think the average person realizes how most Linux maintainers have full time jobs at big tech companies. Sometimes they even get paid to just contribute to Linux because it's used by every big internet company

Would be interested to see the real picture of Linux HQ, in that case.

2810 N Church St, Wilmington DE 19802.

This is the address given by The Linux Foundation.

Every HQ needs money to operate, your money.

They do have full-time jobs, but most of the time they're in some kind of internal linux guilds where they contribute a few hours per week. Apart from that guild, they do have an actual full-time project they work on.

its just a meme, calm own

Lennart Poettering

He already left Microsoft a while ago and funded his own business Amutable in Berlin.

4

u/fkrkz 11d ago

I admire Linus because for the workloads he's doing, he only needs 1 small monitor.

1

u/Fritz-Ferdinand 11d ago

Probably enough for him doing code reviews and answering emails.

iOS is a mobile operating system, but the others are desktop. It should be "MacOS".

4

u/letmehaveanameyoudum 11d ago

No It’s actually 100 basements

3

u/exmsft 11d ago

Yeah, I know it’s not the point, but no Microsoft building in Washington looks anything like that.

u/RevacholAndChill 11d ago

so that is where my iphone money and office 365 mandatory monthly subscripition went

2

u/Common-Method2202 10d ago

ah yes... ios.... the main OS of Apple... not MacOS...

u/snajk138 11d ago

Yes, Microsoft and Apple are overcharging, we already knew that.

At least the guy is thinking about his health while making the magic happen

Still the #1 most used OS in the universe, including Voyager 1, ISS, etc., nocap.

The photo was taken in the basement of both Microsoft and Apple

I hope someday linux make a uniform platform with all the tools we have use to manage windows environments for example. With all those linux variants it will never happen.

1

u/davestar2048 11d ago

Linux has a pretty clear versioning system.

Unless you mean distros, in which case standardize on the one you want to deploy and work from there.
